Ministry Of Health Collaborates With AstraZeneca To Enhance Early Lung Cancer Detection Initiatives

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has entered into a strategic partnership with AstraZeneca. This collaboration aims to improve early detection programmes for lung cancer across the UAE using cutting-edge global technologies. A digital platform will be introduced to assess lung health, focusing on high-risk individuals, especially those aged 50 and above who have a history of smoking.

In conjunction with this agreement, MoHAP is working on a national guide for early lung cancer detection. This initiative is in partnership with the National Committee for the Prevention and Control of Cancer. The goal is to enhance non-communicable disease prevention and establish a robust health infrastructure in the UAE.

MoHAP and AstraZeneca Boost Lung Cancer Detection

The agreement also involves developing an integrated system for early lung cancer detection using artificial intelligence. Medical staff will receive training on international best practices, and innovative awareness programmes will target high-risk groups. These efforts aim to update initiatives to reduce lung cancer incidence.

A workshop featuring local and international experts will explore the latest detection methods. It will provide insights into the burden of lung cancer on GCC health systems and share experiences from patients who recovered due to early detection.

Coinciding with Lung Cancer Awareness Month, MoHAP organised events in Dubai with AstraZeneca and the Emirates Oncology Society. These events aimed to raise awareness about early lung cancer detection, educate attendees on symptoms, and encourage regular screenings through risk assessment questionnaires.

Workshops showcased technological innovations and artificial intelligence techniques in diagnosing and treating lung cancer. Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand stated, "Our strategic partnership with AstraZeneca aims to advance lung cancer early detection programs through artificial intelligence."

Commitment to Health Improvement

The Ministry remains committed to improving national health indicators by adopting innovative solutions. This aligns with WHO's goal of reducing cancer mortality by 30% by 2030. The UAE aims to position itself as a leader in health innovation.

"The Ministry will continue organising workshops to train medical staff in government and private facilities on the latest protocols for early lung cancer detection," added Dr. Al Rand. The UAE maintains cancer rates below the global average.

Global Context of Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, according to WHO. Smoking accounts for about 85% of all cases. Primary prevention measures like tobacco control can significantly reduce rates and save lives.

This strategic agreement reflects MoHAP's dedication to enhancing healthcare outcomes in the UAE while supporting global efforts against cancer mortality.
