UAE Ministry Of Climate Change Investigates Beef Pepperoni Contamination And Orders Product Withdrawal

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) in the UAE is investigating a potential contamination issue involving Beef Pepperoni with Listeria monocytogenes. This investigation is being conducted in partnership with local regulatory bodies and the Saudi Food and Drug Authority. The ministry is also coordinating with the manufacturer to withdraw the affected product from UAE markets until laboratory tests confirm the details.

Dr. Mohammed Salman Al Hamadi, Assistant Undersecretary for Food Diversity at MoCCAE, highlighted the ministry's commitment to maintaining high food safety standards for all products, whether produced locally or imported. He stated that investigations are being intensified to ensure consumer safety as soon as possible. "The Ministry is working with various relevant authorities to apply the highest food safety standards," he said.

UAE Investigates Beef Pepperoni Contamination

Al Hamadi confirmed that laboratory and field teams are actively collecting additional samples for testing in specialised laboratories. This process runs alongside the removal of the product from all UAE markets. The ministry aims to ensure that any risks associated with food consumption are mitigated promptly.

The Gulf Rapid Alert System for Food (GRASF) plays a crucial role in MoCCAE's efforts to ensure food safety. This system allows for the swift exchange of information about potentially harmful food products among GCC countries. Implemented through a standardised approach, GRASF enables quick responses, thereby bolstering preventive measures and safeguarding consumer health across the region.

By collaborating closely with local and regional partners, MoCCAE aims to uphold stringent food safety protocols. This collaboration ensures that any contaminated products are swiftly identified and removed from circulation, protecting consumers effectively.
