Middle East Institute To Honour Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber With Prestigious 2026 Distinguished Global Leadership Award
The Middle East Institute (MEI) will honour Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber with the 2026 Distinguished Global Leadership Award. This accolade will be presented at MEI’s 78th Annual Gala in Washington, D.C., in March 2026. Dr. Al Jaber is recognised for his significant contributions to energy, technology, and socioeconomic growth, as well as his efforts in fostering international collaboration and youth talent development.
Dr. Al Jaber has been pivotal in promoting a practical approach to the global energy landscape. His focus is on meeting the rising energy demand driven by emerging markets and AI growth. He has also championed strong corporate governance standards that enhance integrity and compliance, supporting sustainable growth.

As the UAE’s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Dr. Al Jaber has been instrumental in driving industrial growth and economic diversification. MEI President Ambassador (ret.) Stuart E. Jones stated, "As Group CEO of ADNOC, he has consistently delivered a pro-growth, pro-investment, and pro-people framework to address the rising energy needs of markets and communities."
In his role as Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNOC, Dr. Al Jaber has transformed the company into a leading international energy firm. It now stands at the forefront of deploying AI and advanced technologies. He also serves as Executive Chairman of XRG, ADNOC’s international energy investment company.
Dr. Al Jaber expressed gratitude for receiving the award: "It is an honour and privilege to be awarded the Distinguished Global Leadership Award by the Middle East Institute." He acknowledged MEI’s efforts since 1946 to strengthen understanding between the Middle East and the U.S.

Acknowledged Achievements
In 2023, as COP28 President, Dr. Al Jaber led nearly 200 countries to adopt the UAE Consensus—a market-based climate agreement that introduced energy realism into policy discussions for practical solutions. He continues to bring together leaders from various sectors to address growing energy needs while harnessing AI's potential.
Dr. Al Jaber's leadership extends beyond his ministerial roles; he leads multiple institutions advancing frontier technologies and economic opportunities globally. His work aligns energy security with climate stewardship, earning him worldwide recognition.
Honours and Educational Background
Acknowledging his achievements, Dr. Al Jaber received several honours including the U.N.’s Champion of the Earth award and was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II. In 2024, he was awarded the CERAWeek Leadership Award for fostering consensus towards a sustainable energy future.
Dr. Al Jaber holds a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from USC, an MBA from California State University, Los Angeles, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Coventry University.
