MBZUAI And MIT Schwarzman College Of Computing Launch Collaborative AI Research Programme

The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) and the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing have launched a collaborative research programme. This initiative aims to harness the latest AI advancements to tackle scientific, societal, and environmental challenges. The collaboration seeks to enhance AI's technological foundations and promote its application in critical areas.

Faculty, students, and research staff from both institutions will work together on impactful projects. Each project will be led by a principal investigator from MBZUAI and MIT. Le Song from MBZUAI and Philip Isola from MIT will serve as academic directors for their respective campuses.

New AI Research Collaboration Between MBZUAI and MIT

The programme focuses on three main areas: scientific discovery, human thriving, and planetary health. It aligns with the goals of the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing to advance computing across disciplines. The initiative also supports the UAE's ambition to become a global hub for innovative AI solutions.

Professor Eric Xing, President of MBZUAI, highlighted the significance of this partnership. "This agreement will unite the efforts of researchers at two world-class institutions to advance frontier AI research across health, robotics, and efficient computing," he stated.

Professor Daniel Huttenlocher, Dean of the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing, emphasised their shared commitment. "Our collaboration with MBZUAI reflects a shared commitment to advancing AI in ways that are responsible, inclusive, and globally impactful," he said.

Professor Sami Haddadin from MBZUAI noted the potential impact on healthcare innovation. "By uniting digital health, robotics, and efficient computing to build multi-scale biological foundation models of the human body," he explained.

Driving Sustainable AI Solutions

The collaboration aims to drive sustainable AI solutions at scale while ensuring responsible application. Professor Xing added that breakthroughs would focus on improving human health and enabling intelligent robotics.

This partnership represents a significant step towards exploring new horizons in AI research. It promises broad societal benefits through scientific discovery and sustainability efforts.
