MBZUAI Launches K2 Think Hackathon To Inspire Global Innovation In AI Reasoning

The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has introduced the K2 Think Hackathon, a global competition aimed at innovators, developers, researchers, and students. Participants are encouraged to create innovative applications using K2 Think, an advanced open-source system for reasoning. The winning concept will be incorporated into the K2 Think app, making it accessible to users worldwide.

The hackathon is structured in two phases. The first phase, called the Global Idea Call, takes place from 14th to 26th October 2025. During this period, participants from around the globe can submit a one-page proposal. This proposal should demonstrate how K2 Think can address real-world issues or enhance user experiences.

The second phase is a 48-hour Build Challenge held in Abu Dhabi from 7th to 9th November 2025. The top ten teams, chosen by a panel of experts, will receive travel grants to develop and present their ideas at MBZUAI. This stage allows participants to bring their concepts to life through hands-on development.

Organised by MBZUAI’s Incubation and Entrepreneurship Center and powered by K2 Think, the hackathon is supported by MBZUAI’s Institute of Foundation Models in collaboration with G42. Richard Morton, Acting Executive Director of the Institute of Foundation Models, stated that the event aims to gather creative developers worldwide to influence AI reasoning's future through practical applications.

Applications are currently open on https://hackathon.k2think.ai/, with submissions accepted until 26th October 2025. Teams can consist of up to four members and must include specific elements in their proposals: a problem statement with target users, how K2 Think will be used, a proposed demo or experience, and its potential global impact.

Richard Morton highlighted that "K2 Think is engineered for advanced mathematical reasoning," offering transformative solutions across various fields such as science, finance, education, and logistics. He emphasised that this hackathon provides a significant opportunity for showcasing innovative ideas on implementing K2 Think creatively and effectively.

The hackathon invites participants worldwide to explore the possibilities of AI reasoning by turning their ideas into impactful solutions. By engaging in this challenge, teams have the chance to demonstrate how K2 Think can be applied in diverse ways that are both inventive and practical.
