MBRU Expands Nursing Education Pathways To Strengthen Healthcare Capacity

Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, the learning and discovery arm of Dubai Health, has added new nursing education programmes through the Hind Bint Maktoum College of Nursing and Midwifery. The move aims to grow skilled nursing talent, support national healthcare priorities, and keep training aligned with international academic standards.

The new nursing education pathways at MBRU now run from first degree level to advanced study. Students start with the Bachelor of Science in Nursing. They can then progress to a Master’s, Postgraduate Diploma, or Postgraduate Certificate in Cardiovascular Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, Emergency Care Nursing, or Paediatric Nursing, creating a complete route to advanced practice roles.

Dr. Hanan Al Suwaidi, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Academic Officer at Dubai Health, and Provost of MBRU, said, "Developing highly skilled nursing professionals is essential to strengthening national healthcare capacity. Professor Nezam Al Nsair, Dean of the Hind Bint Maktoum College of Nursing and Midwifery, said, "Our expanded academic offerings provide clear, structured pathways for nurses to build advanced clinical competencies. By integrating specialised postgraduate options with strong foundations in clinical training, we are ensuring that graduates are ready to contribute effectively from day one. This approach enhances workforce readiness and supports the continued development of a high-performing nursing profession."

Alongside the Hind Bint Maktoum College of Nursing and Midwifery, MBRU’s College of Medicine maintains several academic tracks. These include a six-year undergraduate Doctor of Medicine program and a four-year undergraduate Graduate Entry Doctor of Medicine program. The college also provides a Master of Science and PhD in Biomedical Sciences, plus a Master’s and Postgraduate Diploma in Health Professions Education.

The Hamdan Bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine, part of MBRU, complements the nursing education programmes with five postgraduate dental options. These programmes cover Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Periodontology, Pediatric Dentistry, and Orthodontics. This range supports specialised clinical careers and aligns education with complex patient care needs across medicine, dentistry, and nursing.

Across all nursing education programmes and wider disciplines, MBRU students train within Dubai Health’s clinical network. Learners use the organisation’s research facilities and gain practical experience in its hospitals. This structure links academic content with real-world patient care and supports a workforce prepared for current and future healthcare system demands.
