Mawani Reports Significant 18.66% Rise In Container Throughput At Ports For June
The Saudi Ports Authority, known as Mawani, reported a significant rise in container handling in June. The ports managed 696,839 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), marking an 18.66% increase from the previous year's 587,261 TEUs. This growth reflects a robust performance in the logistics sector.
Transshipment containers saw a notable surge of 35.94%, reaching 164,999 units compared to last year's 121,377 units. Export containers also experienced a strong boost of 17.79%, totaling 268,587 TEUs against the previous year's figure of 228,031 TEUs. These increases highlight the growing demand for Saudi exports.

Import containers rose by 10.68%, amounting to 263,253 TEUs from last year's 237,853 TEUs. Total cargo throughput, encompassing general cargo, solid bulk, and liquid bulk, increased by 1.74% to reach 21,464,070 tons compared to the previous year's total of 21,096,774 tons.
The breakdown of cargo types showed general cargo at 922,351 tons, solid bulk at 4,229,665 tons, and liquid bulk at 16,312,054 tons. These figures indicate steady growth across various cargo categories.
Livestock and Maritime Traffic
The ports received significantly fewer livestock this June with a decrease of 47.35%, handling only 959,188 head compared to last year's count of 1,821,863 head. Meanwhile, maritime traffic improved by 7.56%, with the number of vessels handled rising to 1,039 from last year's total of 966 vessels.
Passenger and Vehicle Movement
Passenger traffic witnessed a substantial increase of 42.34%, reaching a total of 78,698 travelers compared to last year's figure of 55,289 travelers. However, vehicle handling saw a decline of 25.42%, with only 75,437 vehicles managed compared to the previous year's count of 101,146 vehicles.
In May this year, Mawani reported that container volumes handled increased by 13%, reaching a total of 720,684 TEUs compared to June's figure from the previous year which stood at 639,736 TEUs.
