UAE: Marlan Space JV Leaps Into Space With $100M Investment, 50 Satellites Yearly
Abu Dhabi-based Marlan Space, a new entity linked to International Holding Company (IHC), has teamed up with Loft Orbital to create Orbitworks. This venture is the Middle East's first private space infrastructure company.
Orbitworks represents a major development in the UAE's burgeoning space industry. It is the first to produce commercial low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations. With an initial investment exceeding $100 million, Orbitworks plans to manufacture up to fifty 500 kg satellites each year. Loft Orbital, founded in 2017, contributes substantial expertise and technology, supporting missions in telecommunications, earth observation, and scientific research.

Focus on Local Partnerships
Orbitworks intends to collaborate with local component manufacturers and technology providers in the UAE. They will utilise Loft's solutions for seamless technology integration. The first satellite platform is expected to be assembled, integrated, and tested by early 2025. Recruitment efforts are underway both internationally and within the UAE, targeting hardware, software, test engineering, and other aerospace disciplines.
The construction of a cutting-edge facility for Orbitworks is set to commence soon. This facility will employ advanced hardware, software, and industrial technologies for satellite integration and testing. Components for the first ten satellites have already been secured. The initial satellite could be launched as early as the first quarter of 2026.
AI Collaboration Opportunities
The UAE has developed one of the world's most advanced AI ecosystems. Orbitworks will work with AI companies and research organisations by offering a straightforward path to deploy their applications into orbit. This collaboration aims to enhance the capabilities of AI technologies in space.
Pierre-Damien Vaujour, CEO of Loft Orbital, stated: "We have long believed in the dynamism and growth of the UAE's space sector, and we are proud to be playing a small part in the country's journey to becoming a space powerhouse. From the moment we first met with Marlan Space, we were excited about their vision for bringing scaled production and operations of LEO satellite constellations to the UAE. We are thrilled to support and partner with all players in the country's space, satellite, cloud, and AI industries."
Orbitworks will help Loft Orbital advance its goal of flying any payload for any customer in the shortest time possible to orbit. This partnership aims to streamline processes and reduce timeframes for launching payloads into space.
This joint venture marks a significant step forward for both companies involved. It highlights their commitment to advancing space technology and infrastructure within the region.
