MAKTABA's July Summer Camp: A Hub Of Learning And Fun For Abu Dhabi's Youth
MAKTABA at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has initiated its summer camp across five library sites in Abu Dhabi, running throughout July 2024. Themed "What will I be when I grow up?", the programme offers a variety of fun and educational activities for children and teens aged 6-18.
The summer camp features over 28 activities and workshops designed to help children and young adults explore their passions and career interests. These include art, educational, and entertainment activities. Participants will be introduced to various career options such as police work, librarianship, medicine, business, gardening, film directing, personal training, and content creation on YouTube.

The "Leadership in Writing Programme" aims to foster writing skills among children and teenagers by providing insights into the latest trends in children’s literature. Campers will learn about creative writing concepts, including the main traits and characters of a writer. Additionally, the "Leadership in Drawing Programme" will focus on creative drawing, technical skills, and comic creation.
Other artistic activities include drawing on glass cups, designing personalised t-shirts, embroidery, and creating cartoon characters. Children will also illustrate bookmarks, paper cups, and cloth bags using various techniques. Moreover, they will have the opportunity to learn about 3D printing to create art pieces.
Participants can engage in several educational workshops on pottery, greeting cards, stickers, and using Arduino keypads for digital projects. The camp also brings together anime enthusiasts with an anime art exhibition. Various clubs such as the "Youth Book Club" and the "Philosophy Club" will be available for children and young adults.
The "Leader within Me" programme is designed to help participants apply leadership principles in their daily lives. Meanwhile, the "Green Energy" session will focus on renewable energy sources and their uses. The "Robotics" programme will teach attendees about robotics principles and programming insights.
Cultural Heritage
During the camp, young adults will also get acquainted with elements from Emirati heritage through agricultural workshops that showcase different types of seedlings and how to care for them. This holistic approach ensures that participants gain a well-rounded experience that combines cultural education with modern technological skills.
This summer camp by MAKTABA offers a comprehensive blend of activities aimed at nurturing creativity while providing practical knowledge about various careers. It promises an enriching experience for all participants.
