UAE's Lulu Group To Open Two New Hypermarkets In Makkah & Madinah

In a strategic move to enhance its presence in the retail sector within Saudi Arabia, the UAE-based Lulu Group has recently unveiled plans to initiate two significant projects in the revered cities of Makkah and Madinah. The announcement was made by Yusuff Ali MA, the esteemed Chairman of Lulu Group, during a signing ceremony held in Makkah. The event saw the participation of notable figures such as Badr Nadershah, COO of Jabal Omar Development Company, Eng. Waleed Ahmed Al Ahmadi, CEO of Al Manakha Urban Project Development Company (Dallah Group), and Shehim Mohammed, Director of Lulu Group KSA.

The initial project, located at Jabal Omar 3 in Makkah, aims to introduce a Lulu store within Souq Al Khalil as part of a comprehensive mixed-use development. Spearheaded by the Jabal Omar Development Company, this venture is strategically positioned near Masjid al Haram, Makkah Mukarramah. Spanning a total area of 253,000 sq. mtr and boasting a build-up space of 2.5 million sq. mtr, the project is planned to unfold over seven phases, ultimately featuring hotels and branded apartments to accommodate the influx of pilgrims visiting Makkah.

On the other hand, the second venture is set to take place in Al Madinah Al Munawarah, under the development expertise of Al Manakha Urban Project Development Company. This project will cover an expanse of 2161 square meters, adding to the prestige of the shopping mall projects within the region.

Reflecting on this expansion, Yusuffali expressed his profound satisfaction and gratitude towards the support extended by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the Saudi Arabian government. He emphasized his longstanding aspiration to contribute to the development of Makkah and Madinah, assuring the commitment of Lulu Group towards delivering superior shopping experiences and fostering job creation for Saudi citizens.

“The vision and new approach which puts Saudi development at the centre of progress is boosting investor confidence and driving economic development,” Yusuffali highlighted, signifying the positive outlook for the economic landscape in Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, Lulu Group is set to manage the Makkah Commercial Center project, which includes a Hypermarket among other ventures. This project is nearing completion and is expected to commence operations shortly, according to Shehim Mohamed.

Currently, Lulu Group provides employment to 3,300 Saudi nationals, including 1100 women, across its hypermarkets in the Kingdom. With the completion of these new projects, the Group anticipates the creation of around 1,000 additional job opportunities, reinforcing its role as a key player in the retail sector and contributor to the Saudi economy.
