The programme spans four months and involves 25 participants, focusing on a wide range of topics.

Dr. Omar Habtoor Al Darei, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, highlighted the programme's alignment with state policies and leadership directives. He stated, "Our mosques are not like other mosques around us. They are extremely committed, disciplined and responsible and have reached a great extent in their keenness on the national interest, serving this blessed country, its security, culture and people."

New Programme for Emirati Imams Launched

The curriculum covers imam jurisprudence, linguistic skills, Tajweed skills, phonetics, major values and ethics of the imam, Sheikh Zayed's legacy, intellectual security, psychology and sociology skills. It also includes elocution arts and rhetoric training. Participants will gain practical experience through various activities designed to enhance their capabilities.

Dr. Mohamed Rashed Al Hameli from the Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities emphasised that the programme reflects the leadership's vision for developing religious cadres. He noted that it aims to produce imams with intellectual competence and scientific ability to lead with wisdom and tolerance.

Al Darei reiterated that localising mosque positions is a national policy. He quoted President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan: "Empowering national cadres is at the forefront of our priorities." The goal is self-sufficiency in religious human resources for a sustainable future.

He further explained that this project requires patience and diligence from all involved. Every citizen joining this effort is seen as an achievement for both individuals and the nation. This approach ensures continuity of exceptional religious competencies benefiting society.

Collaboration Between Institutions

The programme results from ongoing cooperation between the university and the General Authority for Islamic Affairs. Dr. Al Hameli expressed gratitude towards the authority for its unwavering support in fostering initiatives that build promising futures for national religious cadres.

The comprehensive curriculum includes diverse materials such as intonation, interpretation of Quranic positions, Maliki jurisprudence, intellectual security topics alongside recitation techniques. These elements aim to enhance imams' skills while raising their efficiency levels significantly.

This initiative underscores a shared responsibility among institutions to develop capable religious leaders who can contribute positively within their communities by promoting moderation through knowledge-based approaches rooted firmly in human values.
