Local And Global Sports Leaders Gather In Abu Dhabi To Explore Future Drivers Of The Sports Industry
In Abu Dhabi, over 300 sports industry professionals, including government officials, brand representatives, and event organisers from the UAE and worldwide, convened for the Sport Industry Forum. This gathering has been instrumental in influencing the sports sector's future for more than ten years. It offers a platform for leaders from the Middle East and beyond to network, share ideas, and gain insights from influential speakers.
The forum is hosted by the Stern at NYUAD One-year Full-time MBA programme. It spans two days and centres on innovations in sports and physical activity. The aim is to foster growth and improve community well-being across the nation. Ghanem Mubarak Al-Hajri, Director-General of the General Authority for Sports, inaugurated the event by unveiling the National Sports Strategy 2031.

Al-Hajri highlighted that UAE sports are progressing positively due to support from leadership and efforts within the sector. The strategy focuses on enhancing community sports, competitive sports, and the overall sports system in the UAE. Its goal is to ensure sustainable growth and prosperity in the country's sports sector.
The National Sports Strategy aims to implement 17 initiatives by 2031 through three stages. These initiatives are designed to achieve various objectives that will contribute to the development of sports in the UAE.
Dr. Ahmed AlKhazraji, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, discussed health perspectives at the forum. He stated: "We are committed through our initiatives to create a healthy environment and encourage the adoption of the latest technological advancements to address obesity and enhance overall well-being. By increasing physical activity, we aim to promote a healthier lifestyle for all residents of Abu Dhabi."
Mohamed Al Balooshi from Community Engagement and Sports at Abu Dhabi's Department of Community Development also spoke at the event. Alongside him was Ahmed Al Hosani from Strategic Affairs at Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
Key Themes for 2024
The first day featured discussions on visions for expansion and investment in sports. The agenda for 2024 includes four main themes reflecting current trends: "Investment in Sport: International Expansion by Middle Eastern Companies"; "Healthy Cities: Building a Healthy and Physically Active Population"; "The Growth and Investment in Women’s Sports in the Region"; and "Saudi Sport: Latest Opportunities".
This forum continues to be a significant event for shaping strategies within the sports industry. It provides an essential opportunity for stakeholders to collaborate on advancing their shared goals.
