Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Issues Law To Establish Al Maktoum Archives For Cultural Heritage Preservation

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as the Ruler of Dubai, has enacted Law No. (28) of 2024. This law establishes the Al Maktoum Archives Corporation, a public institution linked to The Executive Office of His Highness. The Archives will document and preserve the cultural heritage of Dubai's rulers and the Al Maktoum family for future generations.

The Al Maktoum Archives will serve as a comprehensive repository for Sheikh Mohammed's biography, collections, and literary works. It aims to highlight his significant role in transforming Dubai into a global cultural and commercial hub. By disseminating the intellectual, humanitarian, and cultural legacy of Dubai’s rulers through publications and media channels, the Archives will underscore their contributions to the emirate’s development.

New Law Establishes Al Maktoum Archives in Dubai

The Corporation is responsible for developing policies to preserve and promote the historical and cultural legacy of Dubai’s rulers. It will document oral histories, produce multimedia content, and conduct research on the lives of Dubai’s rulers and the Al Maktoum family. A digital archive will be created to safeguard these records while fostering national expertise in archiving.

Collaboration with local, regional, and international organisations is essential for exchanging expertise and raising awareness about Dubai's rich historical legacy. The Archives will protect historical documents like official correspondence related to Dubai’s rulers and the Al Maktoum family. These documents reflect their achievements across various domains.

The new law requires all entities in Dubai with relevant historical documents to register them with the Al Maktoum Archives within one year of its implementation. Unregistered documents will become property of the Corporation. Disposing of historical documents without prior written approval from the Corporation is strictly prohibited.

This initiative ensures that Dubai's history is preserved, protected, and accessible. It provides invaluable resources for decision-makers, researchers, and future generations. Through publications highlighting leadership contributions, the Archives play a crucial role in preserving this heritage.
