Khalifa Fund Celebrates Student Innovators In First 'Inno Tank' Challenge

The Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development has successfully concluded the inaugural edition of the "Innovate" Innovation Challenge. Launched in February during the UAE's Innovation Month, "UAE Innovates 2024," the challenge aimed to foster a culture of innovation among university students in Abu Dhabi. The initiative sought to empower young talents to showcase their creativity and technical skills, addressing real-world challenges faced by entrepreneurs in priority sectors.

The event took place at Khalifa Fund Headquarters, where teams from three universities presented their final projects to a panel of judges. The AgriOptima Project from Zayed University secured first place, followed by the Compostit Project from Abu Dhabi University in second place, and the 3D Printing for STEM Education project from Khalifa University in third place. The winners received shopping vouchers from Yas Mall worth AED 20,000, AED 15,000, and AED 10,000, respectively.

The competition addressed critical sectors such as agriculture, information and communication management, healthcare, and tourism. Specific topics included Sustainable Precision Agriculture Innovation, smart city solutions for sustainable urban living, Healthcare Accessibility and Innovation Challenge, and Sustainable Tourism Enhancement Challenge. These areas were chosen to align with the UAE's strategic priorities and sustainability goals.

The selection of winners was based on several criteria: team members' capabilities and competencies, diversity of specialisations, problem identification and its dimensions, scalability and sustainability of the proposed solution, effectiveness, alignment with sustainability principles, and articulation of the value proposition. These criteria ensured that the solutions presented were not only innovative but also practical and sustainable.

Alia Abdullah Al Mazrouei, CEO of Khalifa Fund, expressed her admiration for the participants. "We extend our congratulations to the winners of the Innovation Challenge. Their remarkable talents and creative fervour shine through in the innovative solutions they have developed. Al Mazrouei added that the Innovation Challenge provided a valuable educational opportunity for student participants. The platform also offered networking opportunities with sector experts, mentors, and peers from other universities.
