Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Opens Regional Vaccine Distribution Hub In Abu Dhabi To Enhance Global Health Logistics

H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, attended the opening of a new vaccine distribution hub in Abu Dhabi. This event took place during the Abu Dhabi Global Health Week 2025, organised by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi. The theme for this year is "Towards Longevity: Redefining Health and Wellbeing," and it runs until 17th April at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi.

The establishment of this hub is a major step in enhancing Abu Dhabi’s role in global health. Its strategic location near key markets will improve distribution efficiency and strengthen supply chains worldwide. This initiative follows an MoU between the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and GSK, signed during ADGHW 2024, positioning Abu Dhabi as a leader in healthcare logistics and innovation.

H.H. Sheikh Khaled highlighted the importance of forming strategic alliances to boost vaccine development and research efforts. These partnerships aim to create specialised distribution centres, ensuring vaccines are accessible to everyone, thus strengthening public health systems locally and globally. He praised efforts to build a network of centres supporting immunisation programmes that protect community health.

During the ceremony, H.H. Sheikh Khaled was joined by key figures including Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development; Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi; Badr Al-Olama, Director-General of ADIO; and Dr Noura Al Ghaithi, Under-Secretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi.

Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori stated, "This hub is more than a logistics achievement, it is a cornerstone of a resilient, future-ready health system. Through this collaboration, Abu Dhabi is reinforcing its role as a trusted global partner in public health, enabling faster access to life-saving vaccines and strengthening our readiness for tomorrow’s challenges."

Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi remarked on the significance of this milestone for Abu Dhabi's journey towards becoming a global centre for health innovation. He emphasised that this reflects their commitment to diversifying the economy through sectors like life sciences while reinforcing their role in advancing global health equity.

Collaboration Enhances Regional Health Resilience

Sir Jonathan Symonds from GSK expressed dedication to advancing health security through innovative partnerships. He noted that merging GSK’s scientific expertise with Abu Dhabi’s logistical strengths will improve vaccine access. "This collaboration underscores our commitment to protecting communities and building a healthier future," he said.

The hub combines Abu Dhabi’s logistics capabilities with GSK’s expertise to enhance drug security and promote equitable access across the region. Senior representatives from partners like Rafed, PureHealth, ADIO, AD Ports Group, AD Airports, Etihad Airways and Khalifa Economic Zones attended the event. Their presence highlights strong collaborative efforts behind this milestone.

This initiative demonstrates how public-private collaborations can address global health challenges effectively. By leveraging combined strengths, it aims to foster resilience in healthcare systems while improving patient outcomes across various regions.
