Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Explores NOMAD Abu Dhabi Art Fair Showcasing Global Creativity

H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, recently visited the NOMAD Abu Dhabi art and design fair. This event is taking place at the old Abu Dhabi International Airport Terminal 1, which has been transformed into a unique venue for art exhibitions. The fair will run until 22nd November 2025, offering a platform for both local and international artists.

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with NOMAD, organises this international art and design fair. During his visit, H.H. Sheikh Khaled explored various artistic displays that highlight the blend of art and architecture. He was informed about how the historic terminal was converted into a modern cultural venue, enhancing Abu Dhabi's status as a global creativity hub.

H.H. Sheikh Khaled highlighted that turning the former airport terminal into an artistic space aligns with Abu Dhabi's vision to preserve its historic buildings innovatively. This initiative supports the emirate’s creative infrastructure by providing spaces for artistic expression and community engagement with diverse art forms.

Accompanying H.H. Sheikh Khaled during his visit were Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi; Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council; and Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.

NOMAD Abu Dhabi is the first event of its kind in the Middle East. It signifies Terminal 1's transformation into a vibrant space for artistic dialogue, reflecting Abu Dhabi’s dedication to heritage preservation and fostering international cultural cooperation. The terminal is recognised as a modern heritage site and architectural landmark.

The fair features highlights such as the Rotunda satellite building, circular departure hall, and other unique architectural spaces within Terminal 1. These elements underscore ongoing efforts to protect modern heritage while promoting cultural exchange and celebrating creativity as key to future development.

Cultural Season and Artistic Dialogue

The launch of NOMAD Abu Dhabi at Terminal 1 marks a new chapter in the emirate’s cultural season. It showcases Abu Dhabi’s leadership in heritage preservation, arts, and urban culture while reinforcing its commitment to meaningful cultural collaboration and artistic dialogue.

This initiative not only enhances the emirate's creative landscape but also provides new opportunities for artists to engage with both traditional and contemporary art forms in innovative ways.
