Kazakhstan Appoints Emirati Expert Dr. Ebtesam Almazrouei To Presidential AI Council

Dr. Ebtesam Almazrouei, a prominent figure in artificial intelligence and Chairperson of the United Nations AI for Good Impact Initiative, has been appointed to the Artificial Intelligence Council of Kazakhstan. This council is led by the President of Kazakhstan and includes 16 top global AI leaders. Dr. Almazrouei's selection highlights her significant contributions to AI innovation and governance, showcasing Emirati talent in advanced technology.

Her role on the council involves shaping future AI policies and developing innovative solutions alongside renowned figures like John Hopcroft, a Turing Award recipient, and Peter Norvig, former Google Research Director. The council also includes notable personalities such as Kai-Fu Lee of Sinovation Ventures, Joichi Ito from Chiba Institute of Technology, Laura Tyson from the University of California, Berkeley, and Omar Al Olama, UAE Minister for AI.

Earlier this year, Dr. Almazrouei was acknowledged on H2O.ai's Top 100 Global AI Leaders list for her ethical advancements in AI across various sectors. She is also recognised as one of the most influential women in AI through awards like the Women in Tech MENA Award and her inclusion among the 2025 UAE Women Pioneers.

Dr. Almazrouei's international influence extends beyond her role in Kazakhstan. She is the Executive Director at Abu Dhabi's Department of Finance's Office of AI & Advanced Technology (OAIAT). Her leadership in AI governance is further demonstrated by her position on the Board of Trustees at the American University of Sharjah (AUS).

Previously, as Executive Director at the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), she founded the AI Cross-Center Unit (AICCU). Her work included developing groundbreaking AI models like Falcon and NOOR—the largest Arabic language model—among other flagship programs.

Dr. Almazrouei’s achievements have earned her international acclaim. Her recognition includes being named among H2O.ai’s Top 100 Global AI Leaders and receiving accolades such as the Women in Tech MENA Award. These honours reflect her status as a leading voice in AI governance and innovation.
