International Coalition Advocates For Sudanese Women's Inclusion In Peace Talks

The United Arab Emirates, United States, Switzerland, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the African Union, and the United Nations in Switzerland have issued a joint statement on Sustainable Peace in Sudan. The statement emphasises the importance of integrating Sudanese women's perspectives, leadership, and recommendations into peace and humanitarian efforts in Sudan.

"We recognise the critical role women in Sudan play as agents of peace, as humanitarians, as experts, and as pillars of their communities. Their inclusion is instrumental – and indispensable - to achieving and sustaining peace in Sudan. We must listen to, and act upon, Sudanese women’s perspectives and recommendations if we are to achieve meaningful results. We commend previous successful initiatives with Sudanese women under the auspices of the African Union."

Empowering Sudanese Women in Peace

Inspired by meetings with a diverse group of Sudanese women civilian experts, we are committed to advancing a shared goal: to address the plight of women and children in Sudan, as well as promote their goals and address their needs across the various tracks of these talks.

The delegations have established a technical group that will prioritise integrating the ideas and recommendations of women in Sudan. This initiative aims to ensure that women's voices are heard and acted upon in all peace efforts.

Efforts will be intensified to protect all civilians, especially women and children, from all forms of violence, including sexual violence in conflict. This commitment underscores the need for comprehensive protection measures for vulnerable groups during conflicts.

"We will also continue to consult with Sudanese women as part of this Aligned for Advancing Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan (ALPS) platform to amplify their voices as we work towards a future of peace and prosperity in Sudan."

The statement highlights that listening to and acting upon the perspectives of Sudanese women is crucial for achieving meaningful results. Previous successful initiatives with Sudanese women under the African Union's auspices were commended.

This collaborative effort aims to address not only immediate humanitarian needs but also long-term goals for sustainable peace. By integrating women's perspectives into these processes, there is hope for more inclusive and effective outcomes.

Overall, this joint statement reflects a strong commitment from multiple international entities to support women's roles in peacebuilding efforts in Sudan. It recognises their invaluable contributions and seeks to ensure their active participation moving forward.
