Saudi Arabia's Diriyah Company CEO Appointed United Nations Tourism Ambassador
During the inaugural UN Sustainability week in New York, Jerry Inzerillo, Group CEO of Diriyah Company, was honored with the title of United Nations Tourism Ambassador. This recognition by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNTO) celebrates Inzerillo's over five decades of pioneering contributions to the hospitality and tourism industry. The ceremony was part of a broader agenda focusing on the critical role of sustainability in shaping the future of global tourism.
The award was presented by UNWTO Secretary General, Zurab Pololikashvili, who highlighted Inzerillo's influential role in developing Saudi Arabia's tourism sector, particularly through his work with Diriyah, The City of Earth. This appointment places Inzerillo among a distinguished group of UN tourism ambassadors, which includes notable figures from various fields such as fashion designer Giorgio Armani, football legend Lionel Messi, and opera singer Placido Domingo.

Pololikashvili commended Inzerillo, stating his role in Diriyah is vital in showcasing Saudi Arabia as a burgeoning, diverse destination to international audiences. He praised Inzerillo's commitment to driving sustainable growth and change within the tourism industry.
Jerry Inzerillo's career is marked by significant achievements, including spearheading the Atlantis Resorts and One & Only brands, earning the title of Corporate Hotelier of the World by Hotels Magazine in 2021, and receiving the Presidential Volunteer Service Award from President Joe Biden. His efforts in Diriyah, situated near Riyadh and home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of At-Turaif, focus on sustainability, community well-being, and the preservation of heritage.
The development strategies implemented under Inzerillo's guidance in Diriyah are noted for their sustainability and conservation efforts. These include the integration of traditional Najdi architecture with sustainable infrastructure, planting over 6.5 million indigenous trees, shrubs, and plants, and using carbon-negative building materials. Diriyah's masterplan has achieved the LEED platinum-level certification for Cities and Communities by the United States Green Building Council, marking a first in the Middle East.
