Jeddah: World's New Tallest Tower Resumes Construction With $1.9 Billion Contract

After years of stagnation due to financial hurdles, the Jeddah Tower, poised to be one of the world's tallest buildings, is set to resume construction. Kingdom Holding Company, primarily owned by Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, has declared that its partner entity, Jeddah Economic Co., has entered into a SAR 7.2 billion ($1.9 billion) contract with the Saudi Binladin Group to continue the tower's development.

This move marks a significant milestone for the project, which has seen 63 out of its planned 157 floors constructed thus far. The completion timeline is projected at 42 months, signaling a new phase in bringing the ambitious skyscraper to fruition.

Resumption of Jeddah Tower Construction Announced

Set to redefine the skyline, the ambitious Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia aims to surpass the iconic Burj Khalifa, standing at a staggering height of more than 1,000 meters. This marvel of modern engineering will not only claim the title of the world's tallest tower but also serve as the cornerstone of the $20 billion Jeddah Economic City development, strategically located near the Red Sea. The project encompasses a colossal construction area of 530,000 square meters, promising to be a landmark of unparalleled prestige and innovation.

The tower's design, crafted by American architect Adrian Smith, draws inspiration from the shape of a sprouting desert plant and integrates features to counteract wind forces, including its unique sloping base structure.

This architectural marvel will not only house the world's highest observation deck on its 157th floor but also accommodate a luxury Four Seasons hotel, deluxe apartments, and office spaces. Three lobbies situated on the upper floors will anchor the tower, which is intended to stand as the centrepiece of a comprehensive economic city that includes retail and hospitality zones in addition to residential and office areas.

With the infrastructure development of the first phase, encompassing 1.3 million square meters, already completed, the project boasts essential amenities like electricity, water, sewage, and high-speed internet. These foundational elements pave the way for the tower's continued rise to prominence.

The initiative to resume the tower's construction is supported by a combination of internal resources and banking facilities to cover any additional expenses. This financial strategy underscores the project's robust backing and the commitment of its stakeholders to see it through to completion.

Once completed, the tower, initially named Kingdom Tower, will join the elite category of mega-tall skyscrapers, as defined by The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. This exclusive group includes towering structures that exceed 600 meters in height, such as the Burj Khalifa, Merdeka 118, the Shanghai Tower, and the Makkah Royal Clock Tower. The Jeddah Economic Company Tower's inclusion in this list will cement its status as a landmark achievement in architectural and engineering innovation.

The decision to move forward with the Jeddah Tower over a decade after its initial proposal reflects a significant investment in the region's economic and infrastructural development. By integrating luxury living, high-end hospitality, and cutting-edge office spaces within its towering frame, the project aims to redefine urban living and commercial spaces in Jeddah.

In terms of amenities, Jeddah Tower is poised to offer an unparalleled visitor experience. It will feature a comprehensive range of facilities designed to facilitate seamless transport and access. This includes state-of-the-art elevators spanning multiple levels, escalators, and ample parking spaces, ensuring convenience and efficiency for all who visit or reside within its premises.

Enhanced Visitor Experience and Safety Features

The tower's design includes world-class safety measures and eco-friendly equipment aimed at minimizing energy consumption. An advanced cooling system will support sustainable irrigation practices, demonstrating the project's commitment to environmental stewardship. Moreover, the intelligent integration of these systems underscores the tower's dedication to innovative, sustainable solutions that enhance the comfort and safety of its occupants.

Furthermore, Jeddah Tower is set to become a beacon of leisure and luxury, offering diverse zones and areas that promise to exceed visitor expectations. Its design and facilities are crafted to cater to a wide array of needs, providing an unforgettable experience with each visit. The tower's comprehensive approach to convenience, safety, and sustainability positions it as a future landmark not only in Saudi Arabia but in the world at large.

The completion of Jeddah Tower will mark a significant milestone in architectural and engineering feats, surpassing other towering structures around the globe. These include the Burj Khalifa in Dubai at 828 meters, Suzhou Zhongnan Center in Suzhou at 729 meters, and the Shanghai Tower in Shanghai at 632 meters, among others. Its prominence will be a testament to human ingenuity and the relentless pursuit of surpassing the boundaries of construction and design.

Jeddah Tower

All in all, the Jeddah Tower is set to become more than just the world's tallest building; it will be a comprehensive development that blends luxury, leisure, and sustainability. Its strategic location, coupled with cutting-edge facilities and environmental considerations, ensures it will be a sought-after destination for both residents and visitors, anchoring the ambitious Jeddah Economic City project and setting new standards for skyscrapers worldwide.
