H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of The Big Heart Foundation, along with H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, met with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva. Their discussions focused on enhancing humanitarian efforts and addressing the challenges faced by global organisations.
Sheikha Jawaher highlighted that creating comprehensive programs is crucial for humanitarian organisations. She stressed that while emergency responses are vital, they are insufficient alone. The effects of a single month of crisis can impact generations, necessitating long-term strategies to support recovery.
During the meeting, Pierre Krähenbühl, Director-General of ICRC, shared insights into their operational strategies in regions like Palestine and Sudan. He outlined the challenges in delivering emergency aid securely and discussed ways to strengthen global support for humanitarian missions.
Sheikha Jawaher emphasised that inadequate healthcare and education can be more damaging than crises themselves. She urged all sectors to improve readiness for escalating global challenges. This includes individuals, governments, and private entities working together to address these issues effectively.
Sheikha Jawaher underscored the importance of protecting humanitarian workers under international laws. She stated that no entity should undermine these protections or justify violations against those dedicated to preserving humanity amidst conflict and displacement.
