ITC Unveils Pioneering Autonomous Vehicles Integrated Testing System In Abu Dhabi

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), linked to the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has unveiled a new system at DRIFTx 2025. This event is part of the first Abu Dhabi Autonomous Week, organised by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council. The system, known as the Autonomous Vehicles Integrated Testing, Operations, and Management System (AViTOMS), is a pioneering digital platform in the Middle East and North Africa.

AViTOMS aims to enhance the management of autonomous vehicle testing and operations in Abu Dhabi. It focuses on improving operational efficiency and safety while adhering to sector regulations. The platform oversees every stage of autonomous vehicle operations, from registration and permitting to supervision of trials and data analysis, ensuring safe procedures throughout.

This innovative platform allows ITC to maintain comprehensive oversight over autonomous vehicle trials. It manages applications, assesses company readiness, issues permits across four testing phases, and monitors real-time operations. This capability enhances response speed and coordination with relevant government bodies.

AViTOMS includes smart tools for managing operations end-to-end. These tools feature an online application portal, digital workflow systems, interactive maps for real-time tracking, dashboards for monitoring status and incidents, and an instant shutdown feature for operational faults. Secure data exchange among stakeholders ensures continuous oversight.

Dr. Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director-General of ITC, stated: "This platform marks a step change in the regulation and operation of autonomous vehicles in Abu Dhabi. It enhances operational efficiency and elevates safety standards through a unified digital system that enables intelligent oversight of every stage of testing and operations."

The project aligns with Abu Dhabi’s vision to create a safe, smart transport ecosystem supporting digital transformation. It keeps pace with global advancements in autonomous systems while promoting sustainability within the transport sector.
