ITC Implements Heavy Vehicle Ban On Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid And Al Raha Beach Roads For Improved Traffic Flow

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in Abu Dhabi is taking steps to enhance road safety and traffic flow. Starting 1st December 2025, heavy vehicles will be banned from Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road (E11) and Al Raha Beach Road (E10). Additionally, truck movement will be restricted during peak hours on Al Rawdah Road in the Musaffah area, specifically from the Bridges Complex to the Truck Bridge on E30.

This initiative is part of ITC's broader strategy to manage traffic effectively in Abu Dhabi. The aim is to improve road safety, reduce congestion and accidents, and boost the efficiency of the strategic road network serving key areas across the emirate. By restricting heavy vehicles on these major roads, ITC seeks to alleviate traffic pressure and enhance daily travel experiences for commuters, especially during peak times when private vehicles and public buses are most active.

ITC Bans Heavy Vehicles on Key Abu Dhabi Roads

To facilitate this change, ITC has designated Al Fayah – Seih Shuaib Road (E75) and Al Haffar Road as alternative routes for heavy vehicles. These roads have been prepared to handle truck traffic safely and efficiently, ensuring that commercial activities and goods movement continue without disrupting city traffic. This measure is expected to limit interactions with light vehicles and improve overall traffic flow in the area.

A key aspect of this decision is its alignment with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. Abdulla Hamad AlEryani, Acting Executive Director of the Planning and Strategic Affairs Sector at ITC, highlighted that this move reflects ITC’s dedication to enhancing road network efficiency while achieving high standards of traffic safety. The vision aims for an integrated transport system that supports comprehensive development goals within the Emirate.

Alaryani stated, "The Integrated Transport Centre continuously implements targeted initiatives designed to improve traffic flow and provide a safe, community- and environmentally friendly transport environment. The restriction of heavy vehicles on key routes is part of a well-considered approach that balances traffic safety requirements with the needs of commercial and service transport."

Ensuring Cooperation

ITC has urged all heavy vehicle drivers and transport companies to adhere strictly to new regulations and signage on affected roads. Cooperation is crucial for smooth implementation of these measures, which ultimately aim to enhance road safety for all users while improving overall quality of life in Abu Dhabi.

The decision also includes prohibiting truck movements on Al Rawdah Road (E30) in Musaffah Industrial Area during morning and evening peak hours. An alternative route through ICAD Bridge has been provided to ensure continuity without affecting local traffic conditions.

This comprehensive plan by ITC underscores its commitment to creating a safer, more efficient transport environment in line with Abu Dhabi's long-term developmental objectives.
