IROS 2024 In Abu Dhabi To Host 13 Forums On Robotics For Sustainable Development

Khalifa University of Science and Technology is hosting the 36th IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2024) in Abu Dhabi. This event, a first for the MENA region, will feature 13 forums discussing robotics' influence on various sectors. The conference, themed "Robotics for Sustainable Development," will occur from 14th to 18th October 2024 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

Thousands of researchers, academics, industry leaders, and professionals worldwide are expected to attend IROS 2024. The forums will span four days, focusing on robotics technology advancements and their implications for policymakers. Topics include socio-economic impacts, human-robot interactions, industrial opportunities, and future robotic developments.

IROS 2024: Robotics Forums in Abu Dhabi

The forum titled "Robots for Sustainability and Sustainable Robots" is scheduled for 15th October. It will feature insights from leading experts on making future robots sustainable through models, design solutions, and technologies. This session aims to explore how robotics and AI can contribute to global sustainability efforts.

On 16th October, discussions will include "Europe Regulates Artificial Intelligence: the Challenge for Robotics" and "Government Forum: Funding for Robotics Research." Other topics are "Robotics in Africa Forum" and "Robotics and AI in the UAE: Research Innovation and Entrepreneurship." These sessions aim to address regional challenges and opportunities in robotics.

Forums on 17th October will cover diverse topics such as "Human-Avatars Symbiosis," exploring remote control of multiple avatars in future societies. Other sessions include "Empowering Diverse Voices in Robotics," "Sustainable Medical and Surgical Robotics," and "Moonshot R&D Program Goal 3 Forum." These discussions focus on human-robot co-living's potential impact on society.

The final day features forums like "Marine Robotics in the Ocean Decade Initiative for Sustainable Development" and "The Future of Work: AI-Enhanced Robotics." Discussions will also cover the socio-economic impact of medical robotics under the theme "Industrial Opportunities." The session titled "Robots for a Better Tomorrow" will explore advanced technology's role in enhancing wellbeing.

Showcasing Innovations in Robotics

IROS 2024 will showcase next-generation sustainable robotics alongside exhibits highlighting cutting-edge technologies. Attendees can engage with poster sessions, keynotes, panel discussions, and networking events throughout this international conference. These activities aim to foster collaboration among participants from various fields.

Dr. Jorge Dias, General Chair of IROS 2024, stated that the conference's forums would address crucial aspects of an increasingly digital world. He said they would provide a platform for experts to discuss robotics' future role while offering insights into recent advancements. "Each forum is designed to highlight the recent advancements," he noted.
