INTRATOMICS And MAGMA Collaborate To Transform Industrial Waste Into Graphene For Sustainable Innovation

INTRATOMICS Advanced Material Technologies, a commercial entity from Khalifa University Enterprises Company (KUEC), has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MAGMA (RWM). This UAE-based company focuses on waste valorisation and sustainable material recovery. The agreement was signed by Fahed Mohamed Rashed Alabsi, CEO of INTRATOMICS, and Mark Anthony Woods, CEO of MAGMA.

The collaboration aims to convert industrial byproducts into advanced materials, enhancing sustainability across various sectors. This strategic move supports the creation of a circular economy where waste is transformed into graphene and related materials. Such advancements are expected to benefit the UAE's manufacturing, construction, petrochemical, infrastructure, and environmental industries.

Transforming Industrial Waste into Graphene

Fahad Mohamed Rashed Alabsi stated that this partnership changes the perception of waste from a burden to a valuable resource. He emphasised that working with MAGMA allows for the transformation of waste materials into feedstock for graphene production. This initiative promotes cleaner industries and strengthens the UAE’s position in sustainable innovation.

The collaboration will focus on converting various waste streams like coke, fly ash, biosolids, and metallic residues into graphene-based materials. These materials can be used in coatings, composites, filtration systems, lubricants, and structural applications. This approach bridges environmental engineering with advanced material science.

Amal Al Jabri, CEO of KUEC, highlighted Khalifa University's role in aligning research excellence with national industrial goals. By fostering partnerships like that between INTRATOMICS and MAGMA, science becomes a catalyst for transforming the circular economy and achieving global leadership in sustainable materials.

This initiative will demonstrate how scientific innovation can drive circularity by turning waste liabilities into resource assets. It aims to lower carbon intensity while promoting sustainable industrial growth in line with the UAE's Net Zero 2050 ambitions.

A Shared Vision for Sustainability

Mark Anthony Woods expressed that their partnership with INTRATOMICS reflects a mutual vision for converting industrial waste into advanced materials serving multiple sectors. By merging MAGMA’s expertise in waste management with INTRATOMICS’ technological capabilities, they aim to showcase a model where sustainability aligns with profitability.

The project will enable the creation of locally produced high-value materials supporting construction, energy storage, mobility, and manufacturing sectors. This contributes to the UAE’s industrial self-reliance by integrating environmental engineering with advanced material science.

This collaboration signifies an important step towards building a sustainable future where industrial byproducts are not discarded but repurposed as valuable resources. It underscores the potential for scientific innovation to drive economic growth while addressing environmental challenges.
