IHF Men’s Club World Championship: Sharjah SC Drawn Against SC Magdeburg And California Eagles In Group A

The 18th IHF Men’s Club World Championship is set to take place in Egypt from 26 September to 2 October 2025. This prestigious handball event will feature nine teams competing at the New Administrative Capital Hall, a venue known for hosting major tournaments like the 2021 IHF Men’s World Championship and the 2025 IHF Men’s Youth World Championship.

Sharjah SC from the United Arab Emirates will make their debut in Group A. They face a challenging group with SC Magdeburg, champions of 2021, 2022, and 2023, and the California Eagles, who are participating for only the second time. The draw for this competition was conducted on 11 August at Cairo Stadium during the IHF Men’s Youth World Championship.

Sharjah SC Faces Tough Opponents in Group A

The draw determined that FC Barcelona, the most successful team in this competition's history, will compete in Group C. They are joined by Zamalek SC from Egypt and Brazilian team Handebol Taubaté. Meanwhile, Al-Ahly chose to be in Group B alongside reigning champions Veszprém HC and Sydney Uni from Australia.

Patric Strub, IHF Competition Director, led the draw process with assistance from Yasser El Ramli, Karim Hendawy, and Jordi Rosell. Teams were drawn from Pots 3 and 2. Al-Ahly had the privilege to select their group due to their status as hosts.

The preliminary round will follow a round-robin format from 26 to 28 September. Clubs seeded in Pot 2—FC Barcelona, SC Magdeburg, and Veszprém HC—are scheduled to play on both 27 and 28 September. The semi-finals are planned for 30 September, leading up to the final match on 2 October.

With all teams confirmed by July, preparations are now in full swing as they gear up for this significant event. The draw has provided clarity on opponents for each team in the group phase.

This championship promises intense competition as clubs vie for top honours on an international stage. The event not only showcases elite handball talent but also strengthens global sporting ties through such prestigious tournaments.
