ICAO Selects UAE To Host 4th Global Implementation Support Symposium In 2025
The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has officially chosen the United Arab Emirates as the venue for the 4th ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS 2025) and its related exhibition. This event is a key platform for consolidating global efforts to enhance aviation safety, security, and sustainability through comprehensive discussions, workshops, and meetings. The announcement came at the close of the 3rd Global Aviation Summit in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, where the UAE showcased its leadership in civil aviation through a high-level delegation.
Under the leadership of Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and accompanied by top officials and specialists, the UAE delegation highlighted its significant contributions to the civil aviation sector. The GCAA also presented its services at the summit's exhibition, focusing on training services provided by IACT and Global Air Navigation Services (GANS).

Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the GCAA, emphasized the aviation sector's crucial role in diversifying and strengthening the national economy. He noted the UAE's success in establishing itself as a key player in international civil aviation, backed by advanced infrastructure and globally trusted airlines. Al Marri highlighted the UAE's commitment to supporting ICAO-led initiatives aimed at improving aviation safety, security, and sustainability.
ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano expressed enthusiasm for partnering with the UAE for GISS 2025. He praised the UAE's efforts in promoting innovation and sustainability within the aviation industry. The UAE's proactive engagement in GISS 2024 through innovative proposals and collaborative initiatives was also acknowledged as a testament to its leadership in sustainable air travel.
One notable initiative introduced by the UAE is the Sustainable Aviation Marketplace (SAM) 2025, set to run alongside GISS 2025. This marketplace aims to create a dynamic ecosystem that facilitates connections between project developers, financiers, banks, SMEs, and other stakeholders. It is designed to expedite and expand the reach of programs aimed at achieving cleaner aviation through partnerships and the adoption of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), low carbon aviation fuels (LCAF), and cleaner technologies.
Al Suwaidi highlighted GISS 2025 as a pivotal opportunity for aviation officials and experts to discuss latest developments in infrastructure, air transport services, and air navigation services. He expressed confidence that SAM 2025 would significantly contribute to sustainable aviation practices by fostering collaboration and facilitating important industry connections.
The hosting of GISS 2025 and SAM 2025 by the UAE represents an opportunity to showcase its innovative solutions, technological advancements, and collaborative efforts on a global stage. Attendees from around the world will have a unique chance to engage with UAE's pioneering initiatives, gain insights from its best practices, and explore international partnership opportunities.
