HYROX Event In Abu Dhabi Draws Over 3,500 Athletes From 124 Nationalities

The Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in partnership with HYROX and ADNEC Abu Dhabi, recently hosted the world's largest indoor fitness race. This event, a major fitness occasion in the Middle East, took place on Sunday. It attracted 3,506 athletes from around the world, including 213 professionals. Women made up 41% of participants, with the 30-35 age group being most prominent.

Athletes from 124 countries participated, including 340 Emiratis. The United Kingdom had the highest representation at 24%, followed by the UAE at 9%. Ireland and the Philippines each accounted for 5.25% of participants. The race featured eight rounds of 1km runs combined with eight functional fitness workouts, testing both strength and endurance.

The event offered various categories: Individual (Men and Women), Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Doubles Pro, Individual Pro, Relay Teams (4 persons), and a special category for People of Determination. The men's category started at 7:00 am, with other categories following throughout the day. The men’s relay concluded at 9:00 pm.

Award ceremonies began at 12:45 pm after the first race and continued until 10:45 pm after the final event. Over 12,000 spectators attended throughout the day. Talal Al Hashemi from Abu Dhabi Sports Council remarked on hosting HYROX in Abu Dhabi as part of their commitment to promoting sports and healthy living while attracting world-class events.

HYROX is rapidly growing worldwide and is now an important part of Abu Dhabi's sports calendar.

This event combines running with functional fitness in a standardised format suitable for all fitness levels. It aligns with the national initiative 'Year of the Community,' reflecting leadership's vision for a cohesive society.
