DCT Abu Dhabi Launches House Of Artisans Design Competition For UAE Designers
The House of Artisans, under the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, is inviting UAE-based designers, creative studios, and design students to participate in a new competition. Sponsored by Mubadala, this contest provides a platform for emerging talent to showcase their creativity. The winning design will be prominently displayed at Mubadala's Headquarters.
Participants are encouraged to draw inspiration from traditional Emirati craftsmanship, which has been preserved through generations. The House of Artisans fosters these skills via training courses, workshops, and community events. This competition aims to celebrate the rich heritage of Emirati handicrafts while integrating modern innovation in art and furniture design.

The competition seeks to honour the artisans behind traditional crafts while encouraging contemporary design. Mubadala Foundation’s sponsorship highlights a shared commitment to nurturing local talent. Participants will collaborate with artisans and professionals to create designs that blend historical craftsmanship with modern aesthetics.
Entries can be submitted until 9th February 2025 across three categories: Art, Furniture Design, and Product Design. In the Art category, participants may submit paintings or sculptures that reflect traditional crafts in a modern context. Furniture Design entries should include original pieces like chairs or tables that merge traditional techniques with contemporary styles.
The Product Design category invites submissions of unique items under the theme 'everyday household items', such as ceramics or tableware. From all applicants, twenty will be shortlisted for a tailored design development programme, leading to the selection of eight winners.
A panel of experts from various fields will evaluate submissions through blind judging. This panel includes specialists in art, design, traditional crafts, education, and key members from House of Artisans and Mubadala Foundation. Entries will be judged on creativity, craftsmanship, innovation, theme relevance, and overall artistic merit.

The competition is open to established artists and designers as well as students enrolled in UAE-based higher education institutions. This initiative not only celebrates cultural heritage but also encourages innovative approaches in art and design.
