Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island Launches UAE's First Fully Automated In-House Water Bottling Plant For Sustainability

In a significant move towards sustainable hospitality, Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island has unveiled its fully automated in-house water bottling plant, marking it as the inaugural Hilton establishment in the UAE to adopt such an initiative.

This cutting-edge facility, designed in collaboration with the sustainable water solutions company MYWATER based in Dubai, showcases a commitment to environmental stewardship by eradicating the use of single-use plastic bottles within the hotel premises.

This aligns seamlessly with the environmental objectives of Abu Dhabi and Hilton's broader "Travel with Purpose" strategy, aimed at fostering responsible tourism practices.

The establishment of the water bottling plant is a testament to the hotel's dedication to sustainability and innovation. The facility processes municipal tap water through an extensive six-stage purification system, encompassing particle and multimedia filtration, carbon filtration, reverse osmosis, UV purification, and ozonation.

This meticulous procedure ensures the production of high-quality bottled water, devoid of any human contact, in a hygienic, HACCP-compliant environment. The technology enables the automatic disinfection, cleaning, filling, sealing, and storage of water in reusable glass bottles, bolstering both safety and environmental sustainability.

The operational capacity of the plant is impressive, capable of producing up to 2,500 bottles daily to meet the hotel's entire in-room water demand. This not only replaces around 700,000 single-use plastic bottles each year but also significantly reduces carbon emissions by approximately 600–650 tons annually by minimising logistics and production requirements.

The initiative also includes the sanitization and reuse of glass bottles following a stringent three-step purification process, further emphasizing the commitment to sustainability. To ensure the utmost quality, the water undergoes monthly quality tests by ADAFSA-approved third-party labs, with plans to make detailed water quality information readily available to guests via QR codes on each bottle cap.

Jonathan Brown expressed pride in the initiative, stating, "At Miral, we are committed to championing responsible travel and innovation across all our destinations. The launch of the UAE's first fully automated in-house water bottling plant at Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island is a powerful example of how hospitality and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.

"This initiative reflects our shared ambition with Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island to eliminate single-use plastics, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance the guest experience through future-ready solutions. We are proud to support forward-thinking projects that contribute to the UAE's broader Net Zero 2050 vision."

Echoing this sentiment, Nader Halim highlighted the project's significance not only in environmental terms but also in elevating the guest experience. "This project represents a significant step forward. Not only does it eliminate plastic waste and reduce emissions, but it also elevates our guest experience. I'm incredibly proud of the team's hard work and dedication in bringing this ambitious vision to life."

The water bottling plant stands as a beacon of innovation within the Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island, complemented by other "Travel with Purpose" initiatives such as the "Air to Water" refill stations that have dispensed over 127,000 litres of water since their inception. The integration of advanced purification technology, transparent operations, and strategic partnerships underscore the hotel's leadership in setting new benchmarks for responsible hospitality in the UAE.
