High-Speed Train Project Connecting Abu Dhabi And Dubai Announced By UAE Leaders

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has endorsed a new high-speed train project connecting Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The announcement was made at an official ceremony by Etihad Rail, attended by H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This initiative aims to bolster the UAE's global standing in smart transportation.

The high-speed train will significantly reduce travel time between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, enhancing connectivity and quality of life for residents and visitors. It will also strengthen economic ties between the two emirates, fostering business growth and unlocking investment opportunities in logistics and tourism sectors. This aligns with the UAE's commitment to sustainable development.

The development of this high-speed train has reached significant milestones, including tender issuance for contracts and network design approvals. Etihad Rail will oversee this landmark project's development and operation, building on its achievements in developing the national railway sector. The train will allow travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in just 30 minutes at speeds up to 350 km/h, passing through strategic destinations to ensure seamless travel.

Passenger Train Fleet Unveiling

Alongside the high-speed train announcement, a passenger train fleet was unveiled, marking a milestone in UAE rail transport services development. Designed for safety and efficiency, these trains will connect urban and regional routes across key cities, complementing the high-speed service with speeds up to 200 km/h.

The unveiling included a presentation reviewed by H.H. Sheikh Khaled and H.H. Sheikh Hamdan, showcasing advanced features of these trains aimed at providing seamless travel experiences. This reflects national unity spirit while enhancing connectivity across communities within the UAE.

Integrated Transport Network

The ceremony also announced four initial passenger rail stations located strategically in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah. These stations aim to improve rail service access by integrating with metro and bus lines, creating a comprehensive transport network equipped with state-of-the-art facilities inspired by Emirati heritage.

The stations will feature business-class lounges, retail outlets, and family-friendly amenities designed to foster community development while supporting sustainability goals aligned with the nation’s forward-looking vision.

This high-speed train project is expected to contribute AED145 billion to UAE’s GDP over five decades through fast, efficient rail transport boosting tourism and economic growth. A Cooperation Charter was signed during the announcement ceremony by Saif Saeed Ghobash from Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti from Dubai Executive Council to enhance infrastructure collaboration.
