Hatta Running Championship To Highlight Sporting Spirit Of Hatta Winter Initiative On January 4

The Hatta Running Championship is set to return on January 4, under the patronage of Sheikh Saeed bin Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Hatta Club. Organised by the Hatta Sports, Cultural and Social Club in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) and the Hatta Winter Festival committee, this event has already attracted over 1,000 participants from various countries.

The championship is a key feature of the Hatta Winter initiative, with DSC playing a significant role. The event includes eight categories: Emirati men’s and women’s categories, open categories for 8 km and 5 km distances respectively, youth and children’s categories for under-20s and under-16s over 5 km and 3 km distances. A prize pool of AED100,000 awaits the winners.

This initiative aims to boost tourism competitiveness as part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. It encourages development activities involving private sector participation and supports efforts to promote tourism. By organising events like this championship, it seeks to increase visitor numbers to the Hatta region.

The running routes will showcase Hatta’s beautiful landscapes and tourist attractions, with all races concluding at Leem Lake. This championship is among several sporting activities organised under the Hatta Winter initiative. The Supreme Committee to Supervise the Development of Hatta oversees these activities, implemented by Brand Dubai in partnership with government and private entities.

Recently, Hatta hosted the Winter Football Championship featuring eight community teams. Additionally, from November 29 to December 1, the preliminary phase of the Dubai International Rally took place here. The Emirates Motor Sports Organisation partnered with DSC for this event.

Hatta Adventures organised a walking competition against a backdrop of local farms and aflaj irrigation networks. Upcoming events include mountain biking and kayaking races on January 11 by Hatta Adventures and Hatta Kayak. The Stand Up Paddling and Kayaking Challenge is scheduled for January 25-26.

Upcoming Events in Hatta

A family-oriented sporting challenge will occur on February 1. During Ramadan, the community can engage in sports through the Hatta Ramadan Tournament. The Spartan Race promises to attract both international participants and local communities.

The championship aligns with efforts to position Hatta as a sports tourism destination capable of hosting major events that benefit local communities economically. Such initiatives are crucial for enhancing regional profiles through diverse sporting activities.
