Hamdan Bin Mohammed Launches Erth Dubai Initiative To Document Community Heritage And History
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has introduced 'Erth Dubai,' a new initiative designed to document the emirate's rich history and heritage. This project aims to collect and catalogue stories from community members, highlighting Dubai's development and the lives of its people across generations. The initiative reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasised that Dubai's transformation into a modern city is driven by the inspiring legacy of its leaders. He noted that 'Erth Dubai' seeks to strengthen the collective memory of the emirate’s evolution and deepen the community’s understanding of its history as a fundamental element underpinning national identity. "Erth Dubai will ensure that our cultural legacy not only endures but also continues to inspire future generations," he stated.

The initiative aims to preserve Dubai's cultural identity, which has been a cornerstone of its progress. Sheikh Hamdan highlighted that safeguarding the legacy of ancestors is crucial for passing it down to future generations. He said, "Dubai's journey is a story of ambition, resilience, and unity. It began with the vision of our ancestors, was carried forward by our fathers, and continues to evolve through the efforts of the current generation."
The project will unfold in multiple phases throughout 2025. Initially, submissions will be collected from community members. These submissions will later be evaluated by a specialised jury with expertise in historical, social, and cultural perspectives. The goal is to capture their true essence and ensure comprehensive accounts of Dubai's history are documented.
Sheikh Hamdan stressed the importance of collaboration among government entities for the success of this initiative. He urged all segments of society—students, families, businesspeople, officials—to support it by sharing their experiences and stories. An interactive platform is being developed to gather historical and cultural accounts from individuals and families.
The initiative invites members across various age groups in Dubai to share anecdotes and stories. This effort ensures that Dubai’s rich heritage continues to inspire future generations. Residents will recount personal stories from different life stages, capturing diverse experiences that reflect Dubai’s cultural depth.
Educational Campaigns
In collaboration with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), a schools campaign will encourage students to document stories from their parents and grandparents. This effort helps young people connect with their roots and appreciate experiences that have shaped Dubai’s journey.
The initiative involves public and private school students along with government employees in gathering stories about life in Dubai over the years. Such accounts highlight memorable events, personal achievements, family stories shaping a digital archive reflecting vibrant community spirit.
Future Generations
'Erth Dubai' is part of ongoing projects launched by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan showcasing Dubai’s inspirational journey; one such project includes the Dubai National Archives Project overseen by Mohammed Bin Rashid Library aiming at preserving significant accounts according to global standards ensuring accessibility for future generations.
