Hamdan Bin Mohammed Highlights Dubai's Role At The Global Dubai Future Forum 2024
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, attended the Dubai Future Forum 2024 at the Museum of the Future on 19-20 November. The forum is recognised as the largest gathering of futurists globally, drawing over 2,500 participants from around 100 countries. More than 150 speakers, including government officials and thought leaders, are involved in 70 sessions focused on future trends and strategies.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasised Dubai's role in shaping the future under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He stated: "The Dubai Future Forum has established itself as one of the world’s top gatherings of futurists, enabling the global community to keep pace with rapid changes while highlighting new opportunities. The forum’s outcomes will guide governments, societies, and institutions worldwide as they plan their futures."
The forum aims to unite futurists with policymakers and researchers to foster international partnerships. Sheikh Hamdan remarked on Dubai's optimism about the future and its commitment to bridging gaps between various stakeholders to realise ambitions. This collaborative approach is intended to drive innovation and transformation across sectors.
During his visit, Sheikh Hamdan explored the Dubai Future Solutions – Prototypes for Humanity exhibition. This exhibition showcases 100 innovative projects addressing global challenges. Overseen by Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, it provides a platform for university students and academics to present solutions to complex issues.
Sheikh Hamdan also engaged with graduates from two significant programmes during the event. He met with 42 graduates from FEEL: A Disruptive Futures Programme, launched by DFF to equip participants with skills for emerging opportunities. Additionally, he attended a graduation ceremony for 20 individuals from the fourth batch of the Dubai Future Experts Programme.
This programme is led by The Executive Council of Dubai and DFF in collaboration with global foresight specialists. It aims to certify future experts within Dubai's government sector. Sheikh Hamdan highlighted these graduates' roles in driving governmental innovation and transformation.
Exploring Key Themes
The opening day featured seven plenary sessions alongside 15 thematic sessions focusing on five key themes: Foresight Insights, Transforming Humanity, Futuring Nature, Empowering Generations, and Optimising Health. These sessions aimed to explore diverse aspects of future development and strategies.
Workshops were also part of the agenda on the first day. These included 'Shaping Health Futures: What Actions Today Will Build a Healthier Tomorrow?' hosted by WHO and Museum of Discovery; 'Flipping the Script: How Can Films Shape Positive AI Futures?' hosted by Future of Life Institute; and 'Future of Life, Future of Making: A New Material Culture?' hosted by ARUP.
The initiative's key partners include Dubai Future Foundation, Dubai Culture, Dubai International Financial Centre, and Hussain Sajwani – DAMAC Foundation. Recently committing AED100 million towards advancing innovation in Dubai reflects their dedication to fostering technological progress.
The forum serves as a crucial platform for discussing how societies can adapt to rapid changes while identifying new opportunities for growth and development globally. Through these discussions, governments and institutions can better plan their futures effectively.
