Hamdan Bin Mohammed Unveils AED 2 Billion Hyperscale Data Centre During Dubai AI Week 2025
Dubai is set to enhance its digital infrastructure with a significant AED2 billion investment in a new hyperscale data centre. This project, led by du in partnership with Microsoft, was announced during Dubai AI Week 2025. The event, organised by the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence, runs from 21st to 25th April 2025 at various venues including the Museum of the Future.
The data centre will be developed in stages, gradually increasing its capacity to meet rising demands. Microsoft will be the main tenant, using the facility's advanced computing power to bolster its cloud services and digital offerings. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum highlighted this as a major investment in digital infrastructure.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan stated, "The project marks a significant investment in digital infrastructure, reinforcing Dubai's leadership in adopting the latest technologies, innovations, and digital services." He further emphasised that data is crucial for future technological advancements and committed to supporting both local and international companies in leveraging technology for community benefits.
This initiative aligns with Dubai’s strategy to enhance its digital ecosystem beyond traditional telecom services. The centre will address increasing demands for AI capabilities and sovereign cloud solutions while boosting digital capacity across the region. It signifies a strategic move towards establishing essential infrastructure for future economies.
The announcement aligns with the Dubai Universal Blueprint for Artificial Intelligence launched by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan in 2024. This plan aims to develop national talent, integrate AI into government operations, and expand data centre infrastructure in Dubai. Since its inception, it has significantly advanced data centre development and attracted substantial sector investments.
Currently, du operates several data centres across the UAE, providing a secure foundation for digital applications and services. The new hyperscale facility will further strengthen these capabilities, supporting technological progress and enhancing quality of life while reflecting the UAE’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
