H2O Hospitality Sets Up Regional Headquarters In Abu Dhabi, Strengthening South Korea Ties
H2O Hospitality, a South Korean firm specializing in digital innovation within the accommodation and leisure sector, has recently inaugurated its regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi. This strategic move was made in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), underscoring the growing economic ties between South Korea and Abu Dhabi, particularly in areas of innovation and technology. Over the past decade, South Korea has been recognized as the leading innovative nation six times by the Bloomberg Innovation Index. Concurrently, Abu Dhabi has been named the smartest city in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for 2023 by the IMD Smart City Index.
ADIO has extended a comprehensive suite of growth-supportive services to H2O, including financial incentives, setup assistance, and connections within the Abu Dhabi ecosystem and to international trade opportunities. Badr Al-Olama, Director General of ADIO, highlighted the shared vision for digital transformation between Abu Dhabi and South Korea, emphasizing their role as natural partners in navigating a tech-enabled future. Abu Dhabi's diverse investment climate and status as a digitization hub make it an ideal location for innovative companies like H2O Hospitality to expand their operations.

H2O's new headquarters at Abu Dhabi’s Global Market (ADGM) marks a significant step in its international expansion strategy, aiming to replicate its Asian success in the MENA hospitality market. The regional tourism sector is anticipated to witness substantial growth, with passenger volumes expected to fully recover by 2024, reaching around 400 million travelers. In the first quarter of 2023 alone, UAE hotels generated revenues exceeding AED 12.2 billion, with over 7.2 million guests visiting the country. Hotel room rates in Abu Dhabi are projected to increase by 7.1% in 2024.
H2O’s innovative solutions are set to contribute significantly to Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector. The company is linked to more than 85 online travel agencies and manages over 190k units across 680+ properties. Its services focus on automating both front and back-end processes of hotels through digitalization, enabling paperless and contactless operations that enhance efficiency and profitability for hotel operators. Furthermore, H2O’s offerings in Abu Dhabi will improve guest experiences through mobile-based booking, check-in, smart locks, in-room services, and payments.
John Lee, Founder & CEO of H2O, expressed the company's commitment to leveraging its technology and expertise for the benefit of Abu Dhabi customers. With ADIO’s support, H2O aims to contribute to the development of Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector through its comprehensive business expansion in the region. Salem Mohammed Al Darei, CEO of ADGM Authority, welcomed H2O Hospitality to ADGM, recognizing it as a significant addition that reflects the financial centre’s appeal and strategic collaboration with ADIO in fostering investments and innovation aligned with Abu Dhabi’s growth and economic diversification goals.
In a move to foster new relationships with South Korean companies, ADIO opened an office in Seoul in 2021. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to attract innovative enterprises to Abu Dhabi, further solidifying its position as a leading global hub for technology and innovation.
