Green Hydrogen Sector Anticipates Significant Growth In 2025 Amid Industry Integration

The hydrogen sector is experiencing a major shift, as highlighted by officials at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025. Large-scale projects are showcasing hydrogen's potential as a clean energy source. The event, which continues until 18th January, underscores the sector's anticipated growth in 2025 due to its integration into various industries.

Kuljit Ghata-Aura, President of Boeing Middle East, Türkiye and Africa (META), emphasised the importance of green hydrogen in sustainable aviation fuel. He stated that this biofuel will enhance efficiency and help achieve global sustainability goals. Boeing has partnered with UAE entities like the Sustainable Bioenergy Research Consortium (SBRC) to advance this cause.

Ivana Jemelkova, CEO of the Hydrogen Council, noted the sector's transformation and unprecedented global development. Investment has surged, with committed capital increasing sevenfold over four years. The council oversees over 430 projects worldwide, indicating maturity and progress towards implementation.

Jemelkova praised the UAE's leadership in supporting global hydrogen initiatives. She highlighted Masdar's recent addition to the Hydrogen Council's board of directors as a significant step. She aims to strengthen cooperation with the UAE and regionally to boost hydrogen project growth.

Ghata-Aura reiterated Boeing's commitment to strengthening ties with the UAE for sustainable aviation progress. The company supports major airlines like Emirates and Etihad Airways, which operate around 300 Boeing aircraft. Efforts focus on meeting airline needs and supporting future expansion.

Boeing is dedicated to fostering innovation in collaboration with the UAE. The company prioritises sustainability through initiatives that develop innovative and eco-friendly solutions. This partnership aims to create an environment conducive to innovation.

Future Prospects for Hydrogen

The year 2025 is expected to be pivotal for hydrogen, according to Jemelkova. Efforts will concentrate on activating policies and regulatory frameworks while driving project implementation momentum. Leading markets will play a crucial role in accelerating growth.

Ghata-Aura highlighted successful research efforts resulting in biofuel production used by Etihad Airways' aircraft. He reaffirmed Boeing’s dedication to working with UAE partners towards significant advancements in aviation sustainability.
