Golden Spike To Open Bakery And Sweets Manufacturing Hub In KEZAD, Bolstering UAE Food Security

In a significant move towards bolstering the UAE's food security and sustainability efforts, Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi – KEZAD Group, alongside UAE-based Golden Spike and Wheat, has announced a landmark 50-year land lease agreement. This collaboration marks the establishment of a state-of-the-art bakery and sweets manufacturing facility within KEZAD, located in ICAD 3 (KEZAD Musaffah). Spanning an impressive 26,000 sqm, the facility is poised to significantly enhance the production capacity to meet the burgeoning demands of the UAE market.

Mohamed Al Khadar Al Ahmed, CEO of Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi – KEZAD Group, expressed enthusiasm about welcoming Golden Spike and Wheat into KEZAD’s expanding food ecosystem. He highlighted Abu Dhabi's pivotal role in propelling the UAE towards the top of the Global Food Security Index. Al Ahmed underscored the strategic importance of the Golden Spike facility in augmenting national food security efforts.

Mustafa Al Husseiny, General Manager of Golden Spike and Wheat, shed light on the critical role of Food & Agtech sectors within KEZAD in fortifying the country's food security initiatives. He pointed out that Abu Dhabi's Food & Beverage sector is undergoing a remarkable transformation, driven by strategic endeavors spearheaded by KEZAD Group. Husseiny emphasized KEZAD's commitment to integrating cutting-edge agricultural technologies (AgTech), such as vertical farming and hydroponics, to meet the industry's evolving needs. This approach not only addresses the challenges posed by limited arable land and water resources but also aligns with environmental sustainability goals.

The forthcoming Abu Dhabi Food Hub, sprawling over 3.3 sq km within KEZAD, alongside numerous F&B sector clients, are testament to the region's ambitious initiatives to position itself as a leading Food and AgTech hub in the Middle East. These efforts are instrumental in supporting the UAE's strategic objectives related to food security while ensuring adherence to sustainable practices.
