Global Women’s Forum Discusses Regional Cooperation's Role In Social Development Strategies

During the Global Women’s Forum Dubai, a session titled ‘The Future of Social Development: Regional Cooperation and Integration’ gathered influential female leaders to discuss strategies for building resilient societies. Moderated by Chantal Saliba from Sky News Arabia, the panel included Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Dr. Laila bint Ahmed Al Najjar, and Wafa Bani Mustafa. They focused on collaboration's role in shaping a sustainable future.

The discussion highlighted the importance of preparing societies for both expected and unexpected crises. Panellists stressed the need for adaptable frameworks prioritising social sustainability. These frameworks align with broader visions like the UAE’s Centennial 2071 plan, which aims to prepare future generations with necessary skills and knowledge to face rapid changes.

Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid mentioned Dubai's Economic Agenda D33, aiming to double Dubai's economy within a decade. This agenda includes 100 transformational projects designed to position Dubai among the world’s top urban economies. Such long-term strategies were cited as benchmarks for readiness against uncertainties while fostering growth opportunities.

The transformative potential of technology and AI in advancing social development across MENA was also discussed. Panellists emphasised empowering individuals with skills for new careers or entrepreneurial ventures through training programmes and inclusive infrastructure. Accessible spaces for people of determination were highlighted as essential components of this vision.

The UAE’s approach to inclusivity is exemplified by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's introduction of "People of Determination" in 2017. This initiative was praised as an example of how thoughtful policy changes can drive meaningful change, enhancing social engagement.

Commitment to Reform Amidst Challenges

Wafa Bani Mustafa noted that despite regional challenges, Jordan remains committed to its reform agenda through political, economic, and administrative changes. This commitment underscores Jordan's resilience and stability amidst ongoing conflicts in the region.

"Social development is about improving the quality of life for everyone," stated Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid. "It means ensuring that children, adults, and seniors alike can actively participate in their community’s growth and their country’s development journey."

Comprehensive Approaches for Success

The panellists agreed that successful social development relies on comprehensive approaches, collaborative efforts, and learning from regional best practices. They emphasised measuring progress through citizen satisfaction, access to services, and overall societal well-being.

Dr Laila bint Ahmed Al Najjar remarked: "Transformations are happening globally, but the responsibility for social development is not just the government’s—it belongs to everyone. Together, we can ensure that our societies are resilient, inclusive, and equipped for the future."

The session underscored regional cooperation's potential in addressing shared challenges and fostering innovation. By working together, societies can build a future where all members thrive.
