Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award Attracts Entries From 51 Nations
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award has entered its fourth cycle, attracting applicants from 51 countries. This award is recognised for promoting sustainable and innovative solutions to the global water crisis through renewable energy.
The biennial award, managed by the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE), offers a total prize fund of US$1 million. It encourages the development of projects and technologies in water desalination and purification using renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, hydropower, osmotic power, and geothermal technologies.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia UAE, highlighted the award's impact: "Since His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, launched the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, we have witnessed significant advancements in the quality of innovative projects and an increase in beneficiaries and participating countries. The expanding interest from around the globe reflects the award’s success in supporting the UAE’s commitment to addressing global challenges and advancing investments in innovative and sustainable technologies. This aligns with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, particularly Goal 6: clean water and sanitation for all."
The award is divided into four main categories: Innovative Projects Award (Large Projects Award and Small Projects Award), Innovative Research and Development Award (National Institutions Award and International Institutions Award), Innovative Individual Award (Distinguished Research Award and Youth Award), and Innovative Crisis Solutions Award.
The increasing number of applications underscores the UAE's active role in tackling water scarcity issues. The award aims to ensure access to potable water for everyone by encouraging innovative solutions.
