Global Rail 2025 Concludes With Significant Agreements To Enhance Global Connectivity

The second Global Rail event, hosted by Etihad Rail, concluded with numerous new partnerships and strategic collaborations. This year's edition outperformed the inaugural one, launching initiatives aimed at creating a more resilient and sustainable global rail network. Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and supported by H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Global Rail 2025 fostered international collaboration to reshape global rail transport.

Etihad Rail announced 11 agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with leading entities, focusing on rail innovation and infrastructure. These include collaborations in passenger operations, technology exchange, first and last mile solutions, and investment opportunities. The conference theme was "Driving the Future of Transport and Global Connectivity," serving as a platform for industry leaders to formalise a more integrated rail sector.

Global Rail 2025 Concludes with Key Agreements

One key partnership involves Keolis in a joint venture to introduce UAE passenger rail services by 2026. This collaboration combines Etihad Rail's infrastructure with Keolis' expertise to offer a customer-centric experience prioritising comfort and eco-friendly solutions. Another MoU with Mermec focuses on enhancing rail diagnostics and signalling technologies through innovative systems.

Etihad Rail also signed an MoU with RITES LLC to explore investment opportunities in consultancy and transport infrastructure. This partnership aims to leverage RITES' expertise alongside Etihad Rail's execution capabilities for regional infrastructure projects. Additionally, an MoU with MOEI seeks to advance national innovation goals through knowledge exchange and regulatory policy research.

An agreement with TAMM aims to strengthen digital platform integration within passenger and freight services. This includes technical platform alignment, expanded ticket distribution, targeted communication campaigns, and improved customer service. The collaboration supports economic growth by advancing freight offerings and enhancing customer access.

The Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan signed an MoU focusing on knowledge sharing, feasibility studies, testing new technologies, and exploring mutually beneficial collaborations in railway transport. Meanwhile, Masdar is collaborating with Etihad Rail to explore green hydrogen transport solutions across the UAE.

Improving Logistics Efficiency

Agreements were made with Abu Dhabi Customs, Fujairah Customs, Abu Dhabi Ports Group, Fujairah Terminals, and Noatum Logistics to establish a secure customs corridor between Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi and Fujairah Port. This project aims to enhance goods movement through a secure rail link while optimising logistics services.

Yango signed an MoU for integrated first and last mile solutions to optimise passenger pick-up processes. Dubai Taxi Company will provide integrated transport services at Etihad Rail stations using its fleet of taxis, limousines, and buses for a high-quality travel experience.

Innovative Initiatives at Global Rail 2025

A major highlight was the launch of the Etihad Rail Innovation Centre (ERIC), fostering collaboration between industry players. ERIC features Centres of Excellence dedicated to breakthroughs in rail infrastructure and digital systems. The event also included the second Global Rail Innovation Awards offering an AED 1 million grant alongside a Youth Hackathon.

The conference featured over 200 speakers from the rail transportation sector engaging in panel discussions and dialogues. Commenting on these partnerships' success, H.E. Shadi Malak stated: "Global Rail 2025 serves as a vital platform for bringing together rail ecosystem partners...reflecting the UAE’s emerging leadership in global transportation."
