Global Digital Creative Economy Expected to Hit Dh27 Trillion By 2030, Dubai To Lead The Way
In a dynamic era where artificial intelligence (AI), Web3, and virtual reality are redefining the landscape, the digital creative economy is poised for significant growth.
A recent study, the Digital Creative Economy 2024 white paper, developed by Dubai Design District (d3) and Dubai Media City in collaboration with Monstarlab, highlights the burgeoning opportunities within this sector. With an expected annual growth rate of 11%, the global digital creative economy is forecasted to reach a staggering Dh27 trillion by 2030. This growth is propelled by the integration of disruptive technologies and the innovative contributions of young and emerging talent worldwide.

The white paper, which synthesizes insights from over 20 industry leaders and a survey of 400 design and media professionals both in the UAE and internationally, pinpoints the avenues for expansion in the digital creative sphere. This comprehensive analysis arrives as Dubai cements its status as a global hub for the creative economy, securing the top spot on the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Index for project inflows and job creation in the cultural and creative industries in 2023.
Majed Al Suwaidi, Senior Vice President of Dubai Media City at TECOM Group, emphasized the transformative impact of AI, Web3, and virtual reality on media production and distribution. "There has been a seismic shift in how content is produced, distributed, and monetised over the past decade, and the rapid pace of this convergence demands tomorrow's talent is armed with the necessary skills and training to unlock its full potential," he stated. This shift underscores the necessity for a deep understanding of these technologies and strategic support from initiatives like the Dubai Economic Agenda 'D33’ and Dubai Media's vision, to cultivate innovation-driven creativity.
Khadija Al Bastaki, Senior Vice President of Dubai Design District (d3) at TECOM Group, also highlighted the role of the creative industries as catalysts for economic growth. She underscored Dubai's strategic efforts to enhance the creative sector's contribution to GDP, in line with the Dubai Creative Economy Strategy. "Strategic initiatives, targeted development and pro-business policies, and a diverse, multicultural population are cultivating an outstanding global creative community," Al Bastaki noted, emphasizing the city's commitment to fostering a progressive future for creative stakeholders.
Dubai's Rising Status as a Creative Capital
Dubai's innovative environment, bolstered by strategic visions such as Dubai Economic Agenda 'D33’, the Dubai Creative Economy Strategy, and the Universal Blueprint for AI (DUB.AI), is instrumental in integrating AI across its diversified economy. Events like Dubai Fashion Week and the establishment of the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority highlight the city's efforts to position itself as a leading global player in creativity. Additionally, initiatives like 'We the UAE 2031’ and the introduction of a CEO for AI across ministries are aimed at enhancing the local creative value chain.

The digital creative economy white paper also delves into the impact of generative AI on content creation, revealing how over 42% of design and 46% of media professionals see advanced technologies significantly affecting their fields. Dubai and the UAE are recognized for providing a robust infrastructure that supports creative excellence, with a significant majority of professionals affirming the region's role in enabling their success.
Comparing Dubai to global design and media capitals, the white paper identifies key factors nurturing its digital creative economy, such as talent, government support, innovation, and infrastructure. These elements have helped Dubai establish itself as a formidable contender on the worldwide stage of creativity and innovation.
The findings from the Digital Creative Economy 2024 white paper underscore Dubai's pivotal role in shaping the future of the global digital creative economy. With strategic support and a focus on harnessing emerging technologies, Dubai is paving the way for the next generation of creative innovators, ensuring a prosperous and dynamic future for the sector.
