Airbus Executive Highlights Global Aviation Recovery With UAE As A Key Manufacturing Hub

Wouter van Wersch, Executive Vice President International at Airbus, has highlighted the rapid growth in the global aviation industry. He stated that passenger numbers are set to double over the next 20 years. Speaking at the World Government Summit 2025 in Dubai, he noted that 2023 saw a return to pre-pandemic passenger levels, with 5 billion travellers globally.

Airbus is poised to benefit from this surge, with a forecasted demand for around 42,000 new aircraft by 2043. The majority of these orders focus on single-aisle models like the A320, A321neo, and A220. However, there is also increasing interest in wide-body aircraft, especially in the Middle East.

UAE Emerges as Key Hub for Aviation Growth

The Middle East is expected to need approximately 3,700 new aircraft over the next two decades. Of these, 42% will be wide-body planes. This highlights significant opportunities within the region's aviation market. Airbus has a strong partnership with the UAE, particularly with airlines such as Emirates and Etihad Airways.

Airbus has already started delivering A350 aircraft to Emirates, with more deliveries planned. The UAE plays a crucial role not only as a market but also as part of Airbus' global supply chain. "Every Airbus aircraft worldwide contains components manufactured in the UAE," van Wersch stated.

This involvement is due to collaborations with prominent UAE companies like Strata and EDGE. These partnerships underscore the UAE's growing influence in the global aviation sector. Beyond commercial aviation, Airbus also has a notable presence in the helicopter industry within the UAE.

The UAE Ministry of Defence operates many Airbus helicopters. Expanding cooperation in this area will further integrate the UAE into aviation manufacturing and development. This expansion enhances its status as an innovation hub for the industry.

Future Delivery Goals

Regarding Airbus' delivery targets, van Wersch mentioned that they delivered 766 aircraft in 2024. New goals for 2025 are set to be announced soon. This reflects Airbus' commitment to meeting rising demands and maintaining its position in the competitive aviation market.

The ongoing collaboration between Airbus and UAE entities strengthens both parties' positions globally. As demand grows, these partnerships will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping future developments within the aviation sector.
