ATM 2024 Highlights Future Trends In Global Tourism: Focus On Sustainability And Tech

Industry experts gathered at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2024 Future Stage to tackle the evolving landscape of travel and hospitality. The conversation focused on the integration of sustainable travel, AI, and data analytics as pivotal strategies for modernizing travel businesses in the Middle East. The session, titled Trends Shaping the Future of Hospitality in the Middle East, saw participation from leading figures in the industry, including IHG Hotels and Resorts, Marriott International, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Banyan Tree Dubai, Mastercard, and Silkhaus.

Haitham Mattar, Managing Director of Middle East, Africa and South West Asia at IHG Hotels & Resorts, spearheaded the discussion, emphasizing the shift in travel preferences post-COVID-19. Outdoor adventures have surpassed traditional beach vacations in popularity, signaling a significant change in consumer behavior. Mattar stressed the necessity for the hospitality sector to align with tourism authorities to offer compelling packages that cater to these evolving preferences.

Future Trends in Tourism  ATM 2024 Insight

The dialogue also shed light on the increasing demand for sustainable travel options, with Mattar citing that the hospitality industry contributes to 10% of global emissions, yet consumers are willing to pay up to 31% more for services that prioritize sustainability. Furthermore, he touched on the critical role of digital innovation and AI in enhancing the travel experience and reducing travel anxiety.

Sandeep Walia, Chief Operating Officer for the Middle East at Marriott International, shared insights from the "Marriott Bonvoy Travel Trends report 2024 and beyond," highlighting slow travel, sustainability, and the emergence of dupe destinations as key trends. These insights underscore the changing needs of the market and the importance of adapting to these trends.

Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME at Arabian Travel Market, highlighted that the insights provided during the session are instrumental in driving innovation within the travel industry. She emphasized that such discussions equip participants with the necessary knowledge to lead in the hospitality sector.

The 31st edition of ATM, themed 'Empowering Innovation: Transforming Travel Through Entrepreneurship,' also featured the Global Stage Welcome session, which outlined Dubai's tourism objectives. The Market Insights Summit, another key event, explored the potential of emerging markets like China, India, and Latin America in global tourism.

ATM 2024, taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre, boasts strategic partnerships with key industry players, including the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), Emirates, IHG Hotels & Resorts, and Al Rais Travel. The event is set to conclude on Thursday, 9 May, marking another successful edition of ATM in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the travel and hospitality sectors.
