Saudi Arabia Launches SAR 689 Million Corridor Linking Jeddah Port To Logistics Hub

In a significant move to bolster the logistics and transportation sector, Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the Saudi Ports Authority, inaugurated the construction of a major logistics project.

The project's cornerstone is a corridor designed to connect Jeddah Islamic Port directly to the Al-Khumrah Logistics Park. This initiative aims to streamline the flow of goods and enhance the efficiency of transport services in the region.

New Logistics Corridor Enhances Jeddah Supply Chains

Eng. Suliman Almazroua, President of Mawani, was present at the foundation stone laying ceremony, along with a host of dignitaries and leaders from the transport and logistics sector. This project, which is being executed by Mawani, boasts an investment exceeding SAR 689 million. It underscores a pivotal development in the Kingdom's logistics capabilities, promising to significantly impact the movement of goods and services.

The corridor will span 17 kilometers, featuring two lanes on each side to accommodate the seamless movement of trucks. Furthermore, the construction includes 12 bridges, which will facilitate direct access between the port and the logistics park. This infrastructure is designed to bypass the city's internal road network, thereby enhancing logistical operations and reducing traffic congestion within the city.

According to Minister Al-Jasser, the establishment of this corridor will not only speed up truck movements but also increase the Jeddah Islamic Port's handling capacity by 10%. "This direct logistics corridor will significantly enhance truck movement efficiency and increase the handling capacity of Jeddah Islamic Port by 10%," he stated, highlighting the project's benefits in improving the integration of transport modes and strengthening supply chains.

In addition to facilitating smoother traffic flow, the corridor aims to improve road safety and reduce visual and noise pollution around the port area. By diverting heavy truck traffic away from general traffic routes, the project will alleviate congestion and contribute to a more organized and safe environment for residents and businesses alike.

This initiative is a key component of Mawani's strategy to elevate the operational efficiency of Jeddah Islamic Port, leveraging the strategic position of the Al-Khumrah Logistics Park. It aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy's objectives, aiming to establish the Kingdom as a leading global logistics hub that connects three continents.

The corridor will also be equipped with emergency access points, maintenance facilities, and a comprehensive rainwater drainage system. By lowering carbon emissions and preventing truck congestion, the project is expected to contribute significantly to improving the quality of life in the area.

The new corridor is set to benefit a wide range of stakeholders, including transporters, importers, exporters, logistics park users, and shipping lines. By facilitating smoother cargo and container movement, it will enhance supply chain efficiency and open up new investment opportunities in the region.

Jeddah Islamic Port, a key logistics and trade hub on the Red Sea coast, covers an area of 12.5 square kilometers. It features 62 multi-purpose berths and various specialized terminals and facilities. The development of the logistics corridor connecting it to the Al-Khumrah Logistics Park marks a significant milestone in the Kingdom's efforts to optimize its logistics and transport infrastructure, promising to strengthen its position as a critical player in global trade and logistics.
