Flydubai Launches New Ab Initio Pilot Training Programme To Develop Future Aviation Talent

flydubai, a prominent airline based in Dubai, has introduced its Ab Initio Pilot Training programme. This initiative is in collaboration with international flight training partners and aims to address the increasing demands of its expanding fleet and network over the next decade. The programme offers a unique opportunity for aspiring pilots to join a Multi-Pilot License (MPL) course, enhancing their flying skills and launching a career in aviation with flydubai.

The airline currently operates a modern fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft, serving over 130 destinations. With more than 125 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and 30 Boeing 787s on order, flydubai is poised for significant growth. Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, stated, "Dubai has emerged as one of the global aviation hubs by not only connecting the world but also attracting skilled talent who choose to make the city their home."

flydubai Introduces Ab Initio Pilot Training

The Ab Initio Pilot Training programme is designed for individuals over 17 years old who have completed high school. Successful cadets will qualify at the flydubai Flight Training Centre to become Boeing 737 pilots. Captain Ahmad Bin Huzaim, Senior Vice President of Flight Operations at flydubai, commented on the programme's launch: "The flydubai Ab Initio programme is designed to identify and train passionate individuals, with little to no prior flying experience."

This rigorous training journey takes cadets from foundational theory to commercial flight readiness within approximately 18 to 24 months. The programme includes ground school training, simulator and flight instruction, line training, and final integration into flydubai’s flight operations. Candidates must meet several eligibility requirements and undergo comprehensive screening tests.

flydubai's workforce comprises over 6,400 employees from 144 nationalities, including more than 1,330 pilots. The airline plans to receive delivery of 12 aircraft this year and continues its recruitment efforts to support growth. The new Ab Initio programme is among several initiatives aimed at attracting and nurturing skilled talent.

Captain Bin Huzaim added that academic excellence forms the foundation of this programme. However, leadership, teamwork, and decisiveness are equally valued as core attributes of any successful pilot. He also mentioned that the programme would eventually expand to cover more roles in aviation like maintenance and engineering.

Candidates will undergo online and on-site screening tests during the initial phase. These include aptitude assessments as well as cognitive and psychomotor evaluations alongside medical clearances. The first group of cadets is expected to commence training in late 2025.

flydubai remains committed to supporting Dubai’s aviation vision by investing in initiatives that grow its skilled workforce. This new pilot training programme opens doors for Emirati talent as well as residents and international applicants passionate about aviation careers in one of the world's most dynamic hubs.
