flydubai Secures Order For 60 GEnx-1B Engines From GE Aerospace

flydubai, based in Dubai, has announced a significant order for 60 GEnx-1B engines from GE Aerospace. These engines will power flydubai's first widebody fleet of 30 Boeing 787-9 aircraft. This agreement, signed at the Dubai Airshow 2025, also includes spare engines and a long-term services contract to support the airline's new long-haul operations.

The deal aligns with flydubai's growth strategy, enabling it to expand its network and increase capacity on existing routes. Established in 2008, flydubai has rapidly grown to serve over 135 destinations across 57 countries. The airline is now adding long-haul routes to its expanding network to meet rising passenger demand.

flydubai Orders 60 GEnx-1B Engines

The choice of GEnx-1B engines highlights flydubai's trust in GE Aerospace's technology, known for its performance, durability, and fuel efficiency. These engines are designed to deliver robust performance and reliability, essential for the airline’s growth in the region’s challenging environments.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, stated that the airline has become a key player in aviation by making travel more accessible through Dubai’s hub. He emphasised that engine performance and durability are crucial for their operations and fleet expansion as they prepare to introduce Boeing 787 aircraft.

Russell Stokes, President and CEO of Commercial Engines and Services at GE Aerospace, expressed gratitude for flydubai’s confidence in their technology. He noted that the GEnx engines will provide reliability and efficiency for the airline’s first widebody fleet, supporting flydubai's expansion plans.

At the 2023 Dubai Airshow, flydubai placed its first widebody order for 30 Boeing 787-9s. This move diversifies its current all-Boeing 737 fleet. The fuel-efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliner will help flydubai meet changing market demands by offering suitable products at the right time.

Since its debut in 2011, the GEnx engine family has logged over 62 million flight hours. It is GE Aerospace’s fastest-selling high-thrust engine with more than 3,600 units in service or backlog. The GEnx engine powers two-thirds of all operational Boeing 787 aircraft and is certified for sustainable aviation fuel blends.

flydubai looks forward to a successful partnership with GE Aerospace as it embarks on this new growth phase.
