FedEx Launches Nonstop Flight From The West To Saudi Arabia, Enhancing Global Trade Connectivity
The introduction of a dedicated flight by Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) marks a significant advancement in connecting Saudi Arabia directly with the Americas and Europe. This development positions FedEx as the pioneering express logistics provider to facilitate a nonstop route from the West to the Kingdom.
The service, which operates six times a week using a B777 freighter, not only links Riyadh with key international markets but also extends its reach to Guangzhou and Shanghai. From Riyadh, further distribution to the Northern Gulf markets is managed through FedEx's air and Middle East Road Network, offering time-efficient and reliable import services for Saudi-based businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

This strategic initiative by FedEx underscores the company's commitment to enhancing global trade lanes and supporting the objectives of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy, facilitate trade, and establish the Kingdom as a leading global logistics hub.
Richard Smith, FedEx's Chief Operating Officer, International, and Chief Executive Officer, Airline, stressed the importance of this new flight in expanding the company's global network. He stated, "This new flight is a strategic expansion of our global network, extending our connectivity through the Middle East and further increasing resilience and flexibility of our worldwide operations. It reflects our commitment to expanding trade lanes that align with our customers' evolving needs. As we continue to grow and adapt our network, this connection ensures our customers can operate with greater speed and confidence in an increasingly dynamic trade environment."
Enhancing Saudi Arabia's Global Logistics Position
Kami Viswanathan, President of FedEx Middle East, India Subcontinent, and Africa, emphasized the role of this service in advancing the Kingdom's logistics capabilities. "By bolstering Saudi Arabia's connectivity, we are empowering businesses across the Kingdom to compete more effectively on the global landscape and integrate seamlessly into international supply chains," he said.
The rapid growth of Saudi Arabia's air cargo sector, with volumes expected to nearly triple by 2033, highlights the increasing demand for dependable, trade-enabling logistics solutions. The dedicated freighter not only enhances connectivity but also offers added convenience for handling bulky, oversized, palletized, or heavy shipments, including those requiring temperature control or classified as dangerous goods. This is especially beneficial for industries experiencing high growth or subject to stringent regulations, such as energy, manufacturing, mining, healthcare, and automotive sectors.
To complement the physical logistics network, FedEx has integrated digital solutions aimed at improving supply chain visibility, efficiency, and control. These end-to-end digital tools facilitate automated and simplified customs clearance, enabling businesses to navigate complex cross-border requirements with greater ease. The introduction of the FedEx Logistics division in the Kingdom further expands the company's freight forwarding solutions, reinforcing its growth strategy and commitment to enhancing connectivity and trade within the region.
Awad Al-Sulami, Vice President for Economic Regulations and Cargo at the General Authority of Civil Aviation, highlighted the significance of FedEx's investment. He remarked, "FedEx investment in its flight operations to the Kingdom reflects the commitment of global partners in helping to increase the competitiveness of our aviation sector support the ambition of Saudi Vision 2030."
FedEx's initiative to launch a dedicated flight connecting Saudi Arabia with key global markets is a pivotal step towards deepening its long-term presence in the Kingdom. It not only facilitates trade but also strengthens the nation's position as a global logistics powerhouse, in line with the goals of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. This move underscores FedEx's role in advancing the Kingdom's economic growth and logistical capabilities, showcasing its commitment to enhancing global connectivity and trade.
