Federal National Council Delegation Highlights Peace And Development At Islamabad Conference

Dr. Tariq Humaid Al Tayer, First Deputy Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), highlighted the UAE's strategic vision under President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This vision harmonises sovereignty with development, identity with openness, and national ambitions with regional and international roles to ensure security and prosperity.

During his address at the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference in Islamabad, organised by Pakistan's Senate, Al Tayer emphasised the UAE's belief in a new governance system. This system should ensure peaceful coexistence, fair resource distribution, and equal sustainable development opportunities for everyone.

FNC Focuses on Peace at Islamabad Conference

Al Tayer stressed that peace is an essential framework of values, policies, and practices that uphold human dignity. It provides equal chances for living, working, and innovation. He described peace as the bedrock of security and development, warning that its absence leaves everything vulnerable.

"We have a shared responsibility to agree on a system of national and international legislation that outlines the features of joint action," he stated. He underscored the importance of strengthening bonds between citizens and states through legislative frameworks aligned with social realities.

Al Tayer noted that parliaments hold a historic international duty to facilitate cross-border dialogue. They should foster rational discourse that prevents division, builds bridges among cultures, and sustains hope for a stable world.

He pointed out that global changes necessitate new approaches to political, economic, social, and environmental stability. The forces of globalisation, digitalisation, and artificial intelligence are reshaping these needs significantly.

Global Challenges

Al Tayer explained that crises today cannot remain isolated; they impact regions globally. Issues like climate change effects, wars disrupting supply chains, energy threats, food security concerns, and maritime navigation risks exemplify this interconnectedness.

He concluded by emphasising collective action to tackle present or future threats to stability and prosperity. Addressing terrorism requires joint efforts to eliminate its intellectual and financial roots while promoting coexistence and tolerance.

The UAE advocates for comprehensive approaches to challenges threatening economic prosperity worldwide. By fostering cooperation among nations through dialogue platforms like parliaments, it aims to build a safer future for all people globally.
