Farmers' Forum In Sharjah Discusses Strategies For Enhancing Agricultural Marketing And Sustainability

The Sharjah Agricultural and Livestock Production Department recently hosted a Farmers’ Forum to explore strategies for enhancing and marketing local agricultural products. This event, organised with local companies and retailers, aimed to promote sustainable agriculture, encourage knowledge sharing, and develop an agricultural system that balances productivity with environmental care.

Dr Eng. Khalifa Musabah Al-Tenaiji, Chairman of the Department, along with Salim Abdalla AlKaabi, Director of the Department, attended the forum. They were joined by department heads, representatives from agricultural marketing firms, and farm owners across Sharjah. The forum's discussions centred on addressing challenges in reaching local markets and empowering farmers to seize marketing opportunities.

Sharjah Farmers' Forum Focuses on Marketing Strategies

This initiative aligns with the Department's ongoing efforts to support sustainable farms and promote Sharjah’s vision of a competitive agricultural environment. It also contributes to the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy by advocating best practices and modern technologies in food production. Dr Eng. Khalifa Al-Tenaiji emphasised the Department’s dedication—under H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi's guidance—to bolster agricultural projects as key economic sectors.

Al-Tenaiji highlighted contract farming's significance in ensuring market stability and consistent income for farmers. He noted the Department's role in providing continuous farm monitoring, technical support, and training programs to help farmers meet market demands and enhance local produce competitiveness.

The forum addressed challenges in agricultural marketing while focusing on applying advanced technologies practically. Emphasis was placed on efficient resource use, improving production quality, and transitioning from traditional farms to sustainable models. Active discussions allowed farmers to present real-world challenges and brainstorm solutions for growth opportunities.

Attendees explored innovative ways to build a more sustainable agricultural ecosystem by reviewing successful practices already implemented. This event marked a significant step in enhancing public-private sector cooperation, reflecting the Department’s commitment to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah's vision.

Commitment to Food Security

The forum supports implementing best agricultural practices and aims to deliver comprehensive services contributing to Sharjah’s food security strategy. It ensures safe and healthy food for all by promoting efficient resource use and improving production quality.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen agricultural and livestock projects as cornerstones of Sharjah’s economy. These sectors contribute significantly to food security and job creation within the region.

The event underscored the importance of transferring advanced technologies into practical applications within agriculture. By fostering innovation and collaboration among stakeholders, it seeks to create a resilient agricultural system that meets both current needs and future challenges.
